This particular "Feel Good" post is purely dedicated to "ମାଣବସା ଗୁରୁବାର"(Manabasa Gurubara) which is celebrated by Odias in India, in the month of ମାର୍ଗଶୀର (Margashira).
"Manabasa"= Mana+Basa
"Gurubara"= Thursday
"Mana"= A measurable unit to quantify. The quantifiable here is grains(paddy grains to be precise).
So Manabasa= A "mana" filled with paddy grains is placed in the designated location in the "puja ghar" after performing the due rituals on this day. This event is particularly dedicated to "Goddes Mahalaxmi"
The most peculiar thing that you could observe is "ଝୋଟି ଚିତା"(Jhoti Chita) in every Odia house on Thursday of this month.
It is decorated by the Women of the house. The house is properly cleaned and then decorated with "jhoti chita" on the floor and the trail of this "jhoti chita" should lead to the main "pooja house" and also to the quadrangle and the basil plant.
You could observe in this shot, that three small "mana" are filled with paddy grains and are adorned with flowers.
The women of the house get up early in the morning at 4:00 AM, take a bath, and start performing the rituals. The most cleaned house and beautifully decorated house is a way to entice and attract Goddess Laxmi to visit the house and bless the house with prosperity.
This ritual is performed for 4 Thursdays (all Thursdays of the month) because generally 4 Thursdays you can get in a month.
Interestingly, November/December is also the harvesting month of paddy crops in Odisha. So fresh paddy grains are used to celebrate this event.
The best part of this event is the delicious and authentic Odia food which is first offered to Godden Mahalaxmi and then distributed among the family members and neighbors as prasad.
I really love these festive and cultural vibes. These occasions perfectly align with Nature and seasons. The environment and ambiance created around "ମାଣବସା ଗୁରୁବାର" in Odisha are not only auspicious but also instill a positive mood in the family.
Sometimes I feel like these events are otherwise a way to socialize, organize, and reinvigorate new energy in the family, society, region, etc.
Even Billi(ବିଲେଇ)(Cat) is also waiting to get her share of prasad. And my father is reading the Newspaper.
