Tales of the Urban Explorer: £25,000 for Sale?

I saw it on Facebook. Someone else had explored it, and while not giving the location away, the estate agent sign did the damage. 'For Auction,' it stated, bids start at £25,000.

It was a steal for a detached property in the middle of nowhere, except it was roadside on a major-looking but hardly busy road.

13_IMG_9328_13.jpg

I don't generally do these types of explores, as some other people do.

Call the estate agent on false presences of being interested, only to take lots of photographs and claim it as some kind of trophy on 'that' social media site?

Well fuck that, we were going in unannounced, climbing over the weeds and brambles and through one of the many holes.

"Wait... it didn't look like this on the advertising blurb?", I mentioned to @anidiotexplorers on arrival, nor in the images shown by the other explorer.

...'some bastard had cleared away all the trees and weeds. Why can't people leave things alone; cunts!'...

You could barely see the house, due to the amount of greenery present and that made it all the more appealing. Someone had done some gardening, so we would have to pick up the scraps, what a bummer.

Getting inside would be easier, and I would be able to emerge possibly scratch-free for once.

12_IMG_9327_12.jpg

While climbing through what was once a window is easy enough, the lazy bastard in me generally looks for an easier point of access and that was the back door which no longer exists.

The roofing style, while natural and very close to nature was a little extreme for my tastes.

1_IMG_9316_1.jpg

Yes..., well this is going to need some work. A nice retro fireplace, and very seventies but getting up close and personal could be an issue if you don't want the roof to collapse.

2_IMG_9317_2.jpg

If I could get a leg up, and perch on those beams I could look through the dormer window. What beams you say, those rotting ones? Yes exactly.

3_IMG_9318_3.jpg

Some rooms were better than others, but none were habitable in their current state.

4_IMG_9319_4.jpg

Is it one of those weird Welsh ovens again, that co-habits every ancient dwelling?

5_IMG_9320_5.jpg

What would happen if I plugged in a light bulb?

6_IMG_9321_6.jpg

Tread carefully and you can enter this room. I do wonder what authorised visits allow. 'You can't go in there due to Health and Safety issues', is likely the response.

7_IMG_9322_7.jpg

Carpet fibres encrusted the muck from the upper floor; now to find the stairs so we can go up and have a closer look.

8_IMG_9323_8.jpg

It's one of those low-hanging ceilings. I wonder if they were a passing phase of a past decade, long gone?

9_IMG_9324_9.jpg

A single bottle of sauce resides in what used to be the grocery cupboard, I had to look a little closer intent on the brand.

10_IMG_9325_10.jpg

It is a Heinz product and the shape looks suspiciously like HP sauce, but the label doesn’t appear to so. I figured HP sauce to always be the last bottle standing.

...For my American readers, HP Sauce is Steak Sauce over there. Probably the same taste, I never tried it...

11_IMG_9326_11.jpg

After a good look around we failed miserably in our conquest of the upper floors. What could have been lurking there, what did we miss?

We judged that the top floor was inaccessible without a ladder. A strange way to get around, but it does take all types and is a great form of exercise.

14_IMG_9329_14.jpg

Directly across the road, lay some outhouses filled will miscellaneous crap. Nothing to get excited about within unless you get your erections from fiddling with broken-down drawers.

16_IMG_9331_16.jpg

The auction started at £25,000. I wonder if there were any takers?

FOOTNOTE:
I was intrigued; did someone buy this wreck in the hope of renovation? I struggled to find it again and did only after checking my emails.

I tend to email myself with the agenda for the day and found it tagged onto the end. It was only added as an afterthought not being one of the highlights of the day.

It's looking rather worse, just over a year later. Someone has removed the roof and maybe has run out of money. What a waste. It looked kind of cute before.

So was it HP brown sauce. She looked like it in shape at least!!

I'm very partial to this stuff these days, it's little wonder our ex-Queen Lizzie had it on her eggs. That's what the label claims anyway... kind of :)

Yas indeed. Between that and sriracha stew my two main sauces. Brown sauce for sausages sriracha for chips! 🙂🙂

That sauce bottle made me curious. You're right, Heinz Ideal Sauce was a competitor of HP Sauce. Apparently the UK has a history of various 'brown sauce' brands, originally created to 'improve the taste' of stale meat. Source: https://letslookagain.com/2015/02/a-history-of-english-brown-sauce/

LOL, that article mentions Daddies Sauce, I remember it when I was young but don't see it now. Stale meat... 😃.., I still douse the stuff on my steaks, I guess they are not tasty enough anymore. 😃

Awww... You should have bought that place when it was with that green roof included!.... hahaha :)).... As always, a very funny article and full of those wonderful pictures you know how to take!.... Cheers and applause for you @slobberchops friend!!!!

Thanks, it was much better before.., but rather uninhabitable. They don't seem to have made much progress at all, this is typical UK. Builders move like slugs.

That's what we would call a 'doer-upper' :) It makes me smile to see one of those old free-standing kitchen storage units as we had one in our old cottage before we did it up. I wonder how easy it is to get planning to build something new when you buy a place like this. There may well be limits on the size. Probably cheaper than renovating when it's that far gone.

From what I hear, planning permission is easier than it was in the 90's, but they tend to make it hard work. This house was isolated and hardly what you call near other homes, so unless it's grade listed (you never do know), it could be demolished and started again.

The buyers it seems have other plans.

If Labour want to build thousands of new homes they should encourage it, but it ought to go to locals rather than speculators.

What do people do in these cases? Do they just tear it down and build new when they buy the land or do they actually try to keep it intact? Are there laws about not being able to demolish old homes?

Are there laws about not being able to demolish old homes?

In the case of grade listed, they are not allowed to tear them down, otherwise as far as I am aware, they can.

A pub not so far from me was demolished a few years ago, I was speccing it up for and explore then it was suddenly gone. Turns out, it was a listed building and there has been an order to rebuild it. Nothing has happened as yet!

Ah, interesting. It seems like things are a little different over there than they are here. I wonder what the person who won the auction will do with the property.

Is it one of those weird Welsh ovens

BEHAVE!!!

I guess 25k is a fair price for the land fuck all can be done to the DERP.

HP sauce the king of sauces, 9/10 derp's still has one. TBH , their A1 steak sauce is a very very poor (shitty) comparison, thin and a very unpleasant taste.

'9/10 derps have one'... you should see some of the shitholes I go to, not a single trace of mankind, besides graffiti. Got some terrible ones coming up soon; trying to mix them with the capsules. South Yorkshire, Summer '23.

My friend I have to inform you that I bought it just because the chimney, the vine and that hole in the roof captivated me too much.

Great place, you are so right! 😜

Ah so it was you! I liked those vines, it looks kind of boring now, don't you think?

Yes, 😠 I warned them not to clean up anything! 🤣

Really cool photos of this old house! I had to laugh when you got mad about someone clearing away all the plants - most people would like it better cleaned up, but I get it, the wild overgrown look makes these places more fun to explore!

The inside of the house is pretty messed up. That roof has so many holes, it's like having a skylight in every room! I really liked seeing that old fireplace from the 70s, even though it's all beat up now.

The weirdest thing was finding just one lonely sauce bottle in the kitchen. It's funny how these random things get left behind in old houses. it's true, those bottles seem to last forever!
Thanks for taking us along on your explore.

I have seen a few that I have arrived too late and the trees have been chopped. They generally do this first, before the renovations. The properties themselves could well be untouched, like this one.

It’s a shame what happened to it.
!pimp

What a damned shame, that skylight was to die for lol. I was guessing steak sauce in the mystery bottle, as that bottle is the same for the sauce I have now, although my bottleis in much better condition..and clean!

They are rarely clean, and not for consumption anymore. Many at time I have seen beverages at pubs that look OK to drink, sealed and all but never have tried.

Wow, I imagine that price just has to be for the land. It would probably cost a ton just to demo and have the remains hauled off. LIttle disappointing there was no physical challenges for you in this one.

Just walk through the door and watch your head. Sometimes it's a relief not to have have climb to get in places.

Wow this is really cool! It's so sad these homes get to this point though.

Holy shit! This place is pretty similar to Resident Evil 4 lol
Great post, thank you soo much for sharing this type of content! 💪

wow.. the overgrowth and time weathered look..

it looks like out of a video game.. 😉😎🤙

The entrance of the building is very natural.

The location of this house, the design is very beautiful, but this house has now become a ruin, a new house should be built on the same design, which will look very beautiful.

Wow!! what an adventure! That's a seriously intriguing property, and your descriptions really brought it to life. The contrast between the estate agent's photos and the reality is wild.I especially loved the HP sauce detail–a true Urbex treasure! The ending is a bit sad, though.Did you ever find out who bought it(or if anyone did)? Thanks for sharing this captivating tale!

The sauce was the only bit of human left in there, I was surprised to see it.

Whoa!just the sauce?That's...unsettling.What kind of place was this,if you don't mind me asking? And what made you think it was human?

I guess there are those who have different priorities than we do.
The only thing attractive about that house was the destruction itself, but not at all appetizing to buy.

The picture of a very beautiful old house, I really like it, but there are no residents in the house.
