New Tunes 8.11.2024

Hello, music lovers! 🎶

It's Friday again, and fresh music, #newtunes, is ready for you to listen to. Eight different songs will rotate over the weekend and beyond.

I have less-known and new musicians vying for your attention, and if you have a few minutes, you can listen to them.
As usual, if you don't like something, skip it.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Weather Systems - Ghost In The Machine

Weather Systems is the solo project of Daniel Cavanagh, better known as the guitarist of the Liverpool band Anathema, who has been more or less on hiatus since 2020. Maybe they'll get something else together for the fans, who knows?
Well, whatever, Daniel has assembled a group of musicians and we have a debut called 'Ocean Without A Shore', which has rather little in common with the previous band. A more subdued and melodic sound, there's less doom and metal and more sing-along choruses, electronics and mixed male and female vocals.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Darkside - Graucha Max

Darkside is a duo from New York, which a decade ago was still doing experimental electronica. They released two albums and went under. Now they are a trio, and, after eleven years, a week ago they released a new single Graucha Max, which immediately attracted the attention of music critics. They say they sound like a mix of Tom Waits, LCD Soundsystem and German krautrock.
What do I know, you can judge for yourself.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Nicolas Michaux - Peace of Mind

Nicolas Michaux is a Belgian singer-songwriter and record producer. He has been working for over a decade and has released several EPs and four albums. The last one, Vitalisme, was released at the end of October this year. He sings in French and cultivates that Cohen-esque aesthetic of frustrated but fully reconciled dysfunctional lover-intellectuals who make an elephant out of their problems. At times I thought I heard early Talking Heads.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Japandroids - Fugitive Summer

Japandroids is a Canadian duo from Vancouver; they've been playing together for over fifteen years and have released four albums, most recently 'Fate & Alcohol' this October.
There is nothing surprisingly new. A slightly different variant of indie rock flirting with melodic punk is suitable for those nostalgic for high school summer parties.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Underworld - Techno Shinkansen

Underworld is a British post-rave and techno duo that has been playing on the electronica music scene, especially in clubs, since 1987. Most people are probably familiar with Underworld because of their hit Born Slippy, which, along with a few other tracks, was featured in the 1996 cult movie Trainspotting. At the end of October, they released their eleventh album in a row, Strawbery Hotel. The mix of techno, trance, house, and ambient and the creation of atmospheric and progressive tracks continues.
The track 'Techno Shinkansen' is one such club rave banger with a Trainspotting style.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Good Sad Happy Bad - Shaded Tree

Good Sad Happy Bad is a group from London, UK. They've been playing since 2015 and have released two albums, the latest 'All Kind Of Days' a week ago. Well, they've also changed their name for the new album. They used to be Micachu & The Shapes. Their songs are about loss, grief, healing, and parenthood, with a thrilling sonic palette of spidery guitar riffs, roiling brass, and hoarse electronics, disguised as pop songs held together by drums and an at times deceptively intricate melody.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Peach Fuzz - Monster In My Room

Peach Fuzz is an indie-rock band from Melbourne, Australia. It is a new name on the scene, and they have recorded two singles and an EP, which are very popular with listeners.
Four fun people with a ferocious stage presence and a potent blend of 70s/90s pop-rock sounds. The song Monster in My Room is from their EP from the end of September this year. We'll see where they end up; they're talented enough.

🎵 🎧 🎵

Lambrini Girls - Big Dick Energy

Lambrini Girls is a trio from Bristol, UK. A new band with a few singles, but everyone, listeners and viewers alike, eagerly awaits their debut album, 'Who Let The Dogs Out,' which will be released in January 2025. You have the song Big Dick Energy to try, and, well, get in line then.

🎶That's all for today, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!

Dejanski komentar bo sledil malo pozneje. Zdaj pa sem želel samo vprašati, ali Japandroids izvirajo iz Slovenije? Vsaj zdi se, da se dobro razumejo z vašim maternim jezikom.😊

Ne vem. Mislim da ne.

I would like to start with your new introductions this week.
My personal winner of the week has to be Nicolas Michaux. The mix of 'modern' elements and traditional chanson is a real trip down memory lane for me, back to the records of Georges Brassens and Jacques Dutronc.
There seems to be a lot of anger and frustration bottled up in the ladies from Bristol, England (Lambrini Girls). But I like the way they are freeing themselves from it all.

Now briefly and pointedly to the 'Japandroids'. You have misunderstood my reference to them. I was trying to draw your attention to the fact that your post was written in the Slovenian language. My guess is that was not your intention. 😉

Oh, fck. Yes, I've noticed now. Thanks for the warning. I usually write in Slovene lang first and then go to translate.
But here I go to listen to the lyrics, and I didn't even look at what I wrote. 😁

Thank you for your witness vote!
