Are you ready for one of the biggest airdrops of 2025.jpg

In my discovery journey through other blockchains I sometimes end up in places and don't remember how I got there. This was the case with my latest discovery: the Sonic blockchain.

What is the Sonic blockchain?

The Sonic blockchain is a very young blockchain that was launched at the end of 2024 by the what was known as the Fantom blockchain. Sonic replaces Fantom. Sonic is a EVM compatible blockchain able to handle up to 10'000 transactions per second. With a sub-second finality of transactions. The native token S is used for transactions. What is very interesting is that 90% of the fees that an app generates goes back to the app. So there is an inbuilt monetization for developers.

The Sonic blockchain can be accessed with Metamask, Phantom wallet or Trustwallet.

How to get S tokens

There are some bridges to get S tokens from Ethereum for example. S is also traded on Binance.

What makes Sonic interesting?

Ok, do we really need one more EVM chain? What does it make different than others? Well, first of all the transaction fees are very low which makes its usage easy.

The next thing why Sonic is interesting is when you look at how it evolved since its creation. After the creation the S token dropped consistently in value until recently. In the last 30 days, the token took 305% in value! Also when you look at the value coming into the chain, you can see that it grows steadily and it's already the 13th biggest chain in terms of TVL, bigger than chains like Hyperliquid, OP or even Cardano.

Huge airdrop coming

What I found very interesting is that you can now collect points to get one of the biggest airdrops of the year. At today's prices, 162 millions of dollars worth of S tokens will be airdroped to users. The airdrop will take place in June 2025 and it's quite easy to collect points. You simply need to deposit coins that qualify for the airdrop on the chain and use the apps that are part of the program.

In order to sign up for the points, you will need a referral code than you need to paste into the field login with x in a second step. You can gladly use mine which is 8R3IF0 .

In order to qualify for points, go to https://my.soniclabs.com/points where you need to connect with your wallet (Metamask, Phantom, Trustwallet) and with your X account. You then have to enter a referral code in this field to complete registration

As soon as you have assets on the chain and you use the apps, you start to collect points for the airdrop. The points will be updated once a day.

How will the airdrop be distributed?

According to the number of points that you have collected, you will get a certain amount of S tokens. Of this amount, you will get 25% immediately without limitations. The rest of the tokens will be in a cool down process over 270 days. You can claim your tokens earlier but it will cost you. The longer you wait, the lower the costs. For more info, look at the documentation of the airdrop. This cool down should make sure that the token price doesn't drop immediately after the airdrop.

Attracting developers

The airdrop comes also with an incentive program for apps. A big amount of S tokens is allocated for developers who in addition to earning these incentives also take 90% of the fees generated on their apps. This is probably the reason why the ecosystem of Sonic is growing very fast with already over 130 apps in the registry.

The ecosystem is getting quite impressive. At the moment there are 137 apps available. Not all of these apps reward points for the airdrop however

This is of course not financial advice. I simply share what I find out on my discovery journeys and share it with you and my future self when I want to come back to my findings :-).

There is no free lunch. Everything has it´s price. In this case you pay with the risk of depositing your coins to a platform which might get rugpulled, also you are rewarded with maybe completely worthless shittokens.

I totally agree with you. There are so many scams that it's almost impossible to discern the legit projects out there. The thing is that here you just need to deposit coins like USDC on the blockchain to get points. I've found some defi platforms on sonic that allow to withdraw to other chains from within the same protocol so I don't think that the risk is bigger than elsewhere but of course everybody has to do his own research.

I once swapped 2.5 $ worth of tokens on ample blockchain to qualify for a 5K $ airdrop. I see a similar potential here and I don't mind taking the risk to park 50 $ of USDC for a chance to get some free lunch ;-).

Yes, Sonic has been a very interesting launch so far, @achim03.

"Ok, do we really need one more EVM chain?"

Yes, valid question, no doubt. It is challenging for any of us to determine, with so many new blockchains out there, which ones to focus on. For me and my money, seeing references like this help:

Shadow Exchangeis being built on top of the Sonic blockchain. Given the team behind it also have choices, as to where to build, finding them getting set up on the Sonic blockchain, with a very significant amount of money coming in behind their decision, is promising.

NFA. DYOR.

The promotion program for developpers seems to have attracted some interesting players. I also went to Shadow Exchange and provided some liquidity today but there seems to be an issue with the UI at the moment. All in all, I'm quite surprised how the chain takes off in terms of TVL and also from an app perspective. I won't go in with a lot of money but I certainly believe that it's worth to use Sonic and who knows maybe we get some airdrops :-)

Lots of airdrops have been disappointing thus far. I'm not too sure if I want to risk my $$$ on an unproven chain. But that said, I'll definitely keep my eye on this to see how it turns out.

It's actually the chain that is replacing Fantom chain and its the same team behind it. So I wouldn't say that it's totally unproven but of course there are risks related to it.

This looks interesting, although I think the airdrop golden era has far gone; nevertheless, as you say, the r/r ratio doesn't seem bad here. Thanks for the shoutout, will look into this!

Airdrops were initially meant to attract users and applications and in the case of Sonic it seems to be working. That's why I'm quite interested in this project.

It sounds like an interesting airdrop, but I am not sure if I want to join in right now. It sounds risky as you have to leave your assets on that chain and if anything happens, you might just lose all of it. Also, how are the fees? The EVM chains tend to have decent fees and I prefer the feeless transaction system here on Hive.

The fees are comparable to what you pay on Solana or Sui. They are definitely much cheaper than most EVM chains. Nothing comes close to hive anyways in this resepct :-)

It's an interesting airdrop, maybe I'll take the risk to participate.

I parked about 50 USDC in a liquidity pool there and I get a return for it and points for the airdrop. I call it a limited risk and a chance for a payout :-)
