It's #beersaturday and time to taste some new beers! Agree?
I have just arrived from the island of Pag, I had some work to do, actually I had to measure something and check if my plan was correct, we went yesterday afternoon and today we are back with everything I need (hopefully) to continue here, of course after the #buzzparty, where I will be present, at least that's the plan.
But as I have two cans waiting for me in the fridge, one Irish and one French, I'll be happy to open them and share the secrets of the flavours with you.
Sullivan's Irish Gold Golden Ale
Brewed by Sullivan's Brewing Company, Kilkenny, County Kilkenny Ireland.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.2% ABV, IBU N/A. It's golden ale style beer.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Traditionally brewed with lightly roasted Cara malt and finished with first gold aroma hops.
Kilkenny Red Ale, which they brew, is one of the best beers for me, so I'm really interested to see what this golden ale is like :)
The beer is slightly cloudy amber in colour, the head is average. It has no particular smell. It goes down the throat smoothly, I taste the pleasant bitterness of the hops and the sweetness of the malt, then I taste honey and hints of roasted malts, and finally I taste caramel.
In the aftertaste, everything slowly disappears, including the bitterness.
A very drinkable and refreshing beer! A real surprise, very harmonious flavours of bitterness and sweetness, superb! You don't find this everywhere. If I had another can I would be happy to continue.
Unfortunately, it is not available in local shops, only by order in a specialised shop (€3.42).

PEL!CAN Rouge
Brewed by Brasserie du Pélican, Mons-en-Barceul, France. Part of Heineken France.
Can, 0.5 l, alcohol 7.5% ABV, IBU N/A. It's a fruit red ale style beer.
What do the Master Brewers say?
A 7.5% unfiltered, cherry-flavored red ale, typical of the North, full of deliciousness and character.
At Pélican, our beers are unfiltered, one less step in the brewing process for a real plus in tasting, with even more generosity and character. That's why we always respect and repeat the same gesture: before opening the bottle (and not after!), we always gently turn our beers upside down before serving them. This gently stirs the yeast to reveal its intensity and flavor.
I don't even know where I got it, or did someone bring it to me? It happens.
The beer is brown in colour, the head is considerable and it is persistent. It smells of cherries. A sip goes down the throat smoothly, and in the mouth I taste the sweetness of the cherries overpowering everything, with hints of hop bitterness in the background.
The cherries linger in the aftertaste for a while, and then a light bitterness lingers.
The beer is very fruity and juicy! The sweetness of the cherries dominates, very juicy and sweet, something different from what I am used to, but in a positive way. It is not a mixture of juice and beer like, for example, radlers, but a pure brewed beer, very similar to Belgian fruit beers. The alcohol is felt later. I really don't remember where it came from in my fridge.
