The question of how to tax💵 people fairly is complex issue that affects everyone in the society. Should the wealthy pay more in taxes than others? Is it fair to tax💵 everyone at the same rate regardless of income?

It might seem fair to tax💵 everyone the same percentage rate, after all, why should someone be penalized with higher taxes just because they are successful financially? Many people may argue that the rich already contributes more even with a flat tax rate. Let's take for instance, someone earning $1 million paying a 20% tax contributes $200,000💵 while someone earning &50,000 pays $10,000 at the same rate of 20%. A rich person is already paying more taxes.

However, a flat tax rate actually impacts the low-income earners much more severely thank high income earners in terms of quality of life and the ability to afford basic necessities. Someone earning $💵paying $10,000💵 tax is left with $40,000💵 to get the basic things he needs. That $10,000💵 tax represents a huge amount of their disposable income after basic living expenses. While someone earning $1 million is left with $800,000💵 after a 20% tax - still an enormous amount of money that allows for a very comfortable lifestyle.
This is one reason why many people argue that a progressive tax system, where tax rates increase as income increases, is actually more fair. The wealthy can pay a higher percentage without it affecting their life whole the low income earners are allowed to keep more of their limited income to cover basic needs.
Some also argue that the wealthy also benefit more from the society's shared resources and infrastructure, and therefore they should contribute more back to the society. Public education, transportation networks, legal systems, all help enable business success and wealth creation.
At the same time, we have to be careful not to discourage hard work, and innovation with tax rates that are seen as punishment. The key is to balance tax. I believe some level of progressive taxation makes sense, but rates shouldn't be so high that they discourage economic growth and investment.
I think a solution could involve a moderately progressive tax system combined with simplification of the tax code to remove loopholes. We could also consider other forms of taxation that don't fall as heavily on income, like consumption taxes or wealth taxes.
There is no perfect solution that will make everyone happy, taxes will always feel painful to some point. But if we can create a system that most people view as basically fair and reasonable, where everyone contributes according to their means without being overly burdened, then that would probably be the best.
The most important is that we have an open and honest societal conversation about these issues. We need to listen to different perspectives, look at real data on the impacts of various tax policies, and try to find solutions. With good faith efforts on all sides, we can hopefully reach a reasonable middle ground that works for everyone.
