Happy Sunday, everyone.
Well, just a day after the last hive-nectar
release, I had to push an emergency hotfix. A client was getting a very strange error when trying to post replies: Assert Exception:false: Invalid permlink character: U
. I spent a while staring at it, thinking, "But where is the 'U' even coming from in the permlink?"
Then it dawned on me. As part of the last big update, I had modernized all the datetime
objects to be timezone-aware. When my derive_permlink
function generated the timestamp suffix for a new post, it was now correctly appending UTC
at the end. There was the 'U' that the Hive blockchain was rejecting.
The fix was simple enough: just force the timestamp suffix to lowercase before generating the permlink. With that, hive-nectar
version 0.0.10 was born. It’s always the little things!
But today is Lazy Sunday, and after that little scramble, I want to keep things light for the rest of this post. So, here are a few other things on my mind.
What I'm Listening To: POST-HUMAN: NeX GEn
Youtube Music: Bring Me The Horizon: POST-HUMAN Nex GEn
My coding and work playlist has been completely taken over by the new Bring Me the Horizon album, POST-HUMAN: NeX GEn. It's an incredible mix of genres, jumping from heavy metalcore riffs to electronic and hyperpop-influenced tracks without missing a beat. The energy is chaotic and intense, which, for whatever reason, actually helps me focus when I'm deep in a coding problem. If you're into rock or metal and are looking for something new and unpredictable, I'd definitely recommend giving it a listen.
What I'm Watching: The Sandman, Season 2
On the viewing side of things, I've been completely absorbed by the second season of The Sandman on Netflix. The first season was such a masterful and faithful adaptation of Neil Gaiman's iconic comic series, and this new season continues that beautifully. The show does an incredible job of capturing the dreamlike, mythological scope of the story. As a Game Master, I'm just in awe of the world-building and the way it weaves together different myths and legends. If you're a fan of epic fantasy that's smart and visually stunning, it's a must-watch.
On the Tech Bench: Thinking About Backups
One of the less glamorous but most critical parts of running servers is dealing with backups. I've been reviewing my own backup strategies lately, trying to make them more efficient and robust. It's not as exciting as building a new tool, but taking the time to ensure your data is safe and easily restorable is one of those foundational tasks that pays dividends in peace of mind. It’s a good reminder that sometimes the most important work is the "invisible" work.
Enjoy the rest of your lazy Sunday!
As always,
