In this post, I'll share my experience traveling to Kuala Simpang, one of the worst-affected cities in Aceh province. A week after the floods receded, the city looked utterly disheveled, with many houses collapsed and land swept away by the river,however that was Six months ago, and this time I’m visiting again to see what has changed.
Oh yes, Kuala Simpang is a sub-district and the center of government and economy in Aceh Tamiang Regency.
The distance between Kuala Simpang city and my uncle's house is not too far, maybe only about 8 km, but after the flood I have rarely visited this city, one of the reasons is the very thick dust on the road caused by the mud. One of the changes that I can immediately feel on this trip is that the condition of the road has started to clean, the dust is no longer too thick.
Before arriving at the city center of Kuala Simpang, I first had to pass through twin bridges, the one on the left is the old bridge and the one on the right is the new bridge. During the day, this bridge looks ordinary, but the atmosphere will immediately change at night because each bridge fence has been installed with LED lights that will light up at night.
I stopped for a moment on the new bridge and watched the view below, a river that was quite large and the impact of the flooding on the riverbanks could still be clearly seen, such as many houses that had been destroyed and several buildings.
Activities are indeed running as usual, but from this view we can see that there are still many areas that are still filled with mud and dust. What is more amazing is that from the top of this bridge I can see how amazing this city is which is filled with tall buildings.
Kuala Simpang is also known as the old city, because in this city we can still find several old and historic buildings, and this is the city that is closest to the city of Medan, so it is not surprising that Kuala Simpang is one of the trading centers in Aceh.
After being satisfied watching this view, I decided to immediately head to the city center of Kuala Simpang
I made this trip in the afternoon, which is the busiest time in the city center. Upon arrival there,i saw that almost all the shops and stalls were back in business,construction and renovations are visible everywhere,of course this is certainly the beginning of positive change
This is a monument that we can find in the center of Kuala Simpang, but if we look at it visually, it is not a large monument, but its body has a very interesting shape and architecture and there is a clock on top of it, if we pay attention in more detail, we can also see circular decorative ornaments around the clock which can give a classic touch.
