Carpet Sweeper to the Rescue!

in Home Solutions8 months ago (edited)

Hello friends! I am very excited because I just got my new cleaning toy today! Yes, cleaning things make me excited, lol. 😄

My upright vacuum died a few months ago, and even before that happened, I was thinking I wanted to try getting a carpet sweeper instead because a) only one room in my current apartment is carpeted (WHO MAKES THESE DECISIONS, LANDLORDS?!) and b) I hate how loud vacuums are. It hurts my head. So I end up vacuuming way less often than I really should because of the noise driving me crazy.

So I checked out reviews online, and this one seemed best for my needs. There were some that were a bit cheaper, but they had less favorable reviews and/or they specifically said they were for hardwood and low pile carpet (and of course, the one carpeted room is modern shag carpet, lol). This one cost me $30 and some change. I ordered direct from Bissell through eBay.

Putting it together was pretty easy, you just screwed together all the pieces of the handle, and then screw it onto the base.

This is what the bottom looks like when you open both of the dirt compartments:

So I tested it out on that bedroom carpet! I did also test it on just a little bit of the laminate floor where there was some litter tracking to see how it performed there, too.

First of all, it was fun. I actually enjoyed doing it, which is the opposite of my vacuuming experience, so hooray! I will definitely be sweeping the bedroom more often than I ever vacuumed it. You don't have to press hard or anything to get it to work (in fact, don't do that, because I tried it and knocked part of the handle loose and had to re-screw it together at that point), you just push it across the floor. Instead of emptying it into the trash can, I emptied it onto a piece of newspaper just to show how much it collected.

Now mind you, the vacuum broke a few months ago, though I did try vacuuming that room with my little handheld Dirt Devil vacuum in that time. I know from the past when I was in-between vacuums though, that the Dirt Devil is not really meant for that and is not very effective on carpet, because when I got the new vacuum back then, it took up a whole canister full on the first pass even though the carpet looked visually clean, because the Dirt Devil just wasn't getting into the depth of the carpet, you know? So there was going to be a lot to pick up on that carpet, don't judge me, lol.

So here are the results:

Yes, Yuan helped me

That is SO MUCH HAIR. And again, the carpet didn't visibly look like it was covered in hair, so it was really brushing it all up out of there. And it also picked up litter off the laminate floor in the kitchen.

So, I give it five out of five stars, I love it. Super effective, quiet, and easy and fun to use. So if you were considering using a carpet sweeper for your home, I highly recommend the Bissell Natural Sweep. No electricity needed!

So. Much. Hair.

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day! :)

At first I was looking as if it is costly

$30 USD, so when I put it in a currency converter it says that's 40,824 Naira.

Yuan is beautiful. Congratulations on your new toy I love it, something like this here would cost a lot of money, I need a vacuum cleaner urgently, to help with my son's allergies. Enjoy your sweeper, it looks beautiful.

I feel for you, I have allergies too, not fun! I hope you are able to get a vacuum soon! Thanks for the reshare! <3

I don't want it, I need it heh,heh,heh.... I wouldn't have thought of getting one but yes, I also shed a lot of hair like your cat and it would be a great ally for my cleanings. Thanks for sharing.

It is amazing how much hair I sweep up in here. It is one long haired human and one short haired cat, and I always get a full dustpan and am like ...HOW? lol

My grandma had a carpet sweeper and, when we were staying with her, thre was a big fight after every meal about who would get to use the sweeper to pick up the crumbs. My sister (about four at the time) thought it was some kind of hobby horse and would ride around on it.

I agree, though, for a quick noiseless run-through, carper sweepers are great. I bought one myself :) Also about the hair! It always make up half the debris!

Oh totally now that you say that about wanting to do it as kids I am thinking about that old Fisher Price toy? Do you remember these (image taken from an ebay sale)?

Jajaja my children had one

I think my neighbor friends had one that I played with, but I don't think we had one, if I remember correctly? LOL

I’m glad you’ve got a new toy. Looks like Yuan is happy with it and I’m also glad that you cleaned up the house
Cleaning makes me happy and comfortable too

Very cool. And for a very low price. 30$ is a steal!

It was a good deal!

Glad to see you get a cleaner 😊
