Hello hive family,
Today was our first day in Udaipur, and after a hearty breakfast, we set out to visit one of the city’s most famous attractions – the City Palace. This palace is known for its grand size and amazing beauty, making it a must-see for anyone visiting Udaipur.
When we reached the palace, we saw many other tourists, both from India and abroad, all eager to explore. We bought our tickets, which were 400 INR each, and entered. Right from the entrance, the palace looked massive and stunning.
We got a guide who shared the history of the palace with us. The City Palace, also known as Raj Mahal, is a beautiful palace complex located in Udaipur, Rajasthan. This palace was built over almost 400 years, with different rulers from the Mewar dynasty adding to it. The construction started in 1553 when Maharana Udai Singh II of the Sisodia Rajput family decided to move his capital from Chittor to the new city of Udaipur. The palace sits on the eastern side of Lake Pichola, and inside its complex, there are several smaller palaces, each with its own unique charm. Over time, the City Palace has become one of Udaipur’s most famous landmarks, drawing visitors from all over the world who come to admire its architecture and history.
We walked through its many chambers, balconies, and courtyards, all decorated with mirrors, old paintings, and intricate carvings that showed the life and legacy of the Mewar kings.
One of my favorite spots was the Crystal Gallery. The collection here was absolutely beautiful, with royal crystal items on display. Unfortunately, photography was not allowed in this section, so I couldn’t capture any photos, but it was truly a sight to remember. If you ever visit City Palace, make sure to check out the Crystal Gallery — it’s definitely worth it.
Another highlight was Mor Chowk, or the Peacock Courtyard, decorated with colorful mosaic peacocks, showing off the amazing craftsmanship of the artists. Every corner of the palace has something unique to offer, and it felt like stepping back in time.
Udaipur is a favorite spot for Bollywood and Hollywood filmmakers because of its beautiful palaces, scenic lakes, and rich culture. Many Indian and international movies have been filmed here.
Our first day at Udaipur’s City Palace was a memorable start to our trip. There are so many tourist places in Udaipur that it’s impossible to showcase them all in a single blog. Visiting Udaipur at least once is a must. In my next post, I’ll tell you more about the other places in Udaipur.
