I think I have gotten to that stage in my life where I get very careful when trying to decide on things. I am well aware that as humans, we can never be too careful, so I am not reallyy trying to be perfect This post is specifically about the fact that I am contemplating on where to do my service year. There is this program designed for university graduates to serve the country for a full year, and they are distrubuted into different states.
I have two different options of where I want to do this service year, and my final choice was clear at first, until lately. So, the two options I had were Lagos State (state A) and Oyo State (state B) but my first choice has always been state A.
I had few reasons to consider state A, they are;
- To do an internship with a big photography studio in the city so as to brush my skill up during my service year.
- To attend summits, events, and programs easily (apparently, this is the city where most of these things occur most of the time. It is a very developed city with numerous opportunities and that entices a lot of people to consider making there their home).
- A change in environment, a new living experience and an escape from my comfort zone.
- A better exposure to the things I am interested in.
However, the discouragements are;
- High cost of living over there
- Uncertainties of plans working out the way I have imagines
- A place to stay. I can not take an apartment because things are very costly in state A. I have an uncle to stay with, but his place is quite far from the actual town.
- It is a very competitive state, so it is always hard to actually get posted there.
I grew up in state B—attended my primary and secondary school there and my family lives there as well. If I do my service year there, I will have a place to stay and live comfortably (a typical comfort zone). They even pay additional salary to the corp members in state B, when they work for the government. My parents are also advising me stay in state B for my service year. It is even confusing and I don’t know want to make mistakes when making this decision, it can determine a lot about my future. I will appreciate you dropping your thoughts about this.
