Google will not delete your data immediately if you stop paying for Google One

in LeoFinance20 hours ago

I'm currently using a Google One subscription, for which I pay a monthly fee. I have already crossed my 15 GB limit, so I'm using this subscription model. I also had this question in mind: What will happen if I stop my subscription, and how will the data be managed? I know for a fact that all the other Google services will stop, and I will stop receiving emails since my storage space becomes full.

But I was not sure what would happen to the excess data in my account already. I was sure that Google would not take any drastic approach to deleting the data if the subscription was cancelled, and I was right. They have some policies over the data stored. Even if we have 100 GB of data stored and cancel our subscription, the data will still be safe, but we will not be able to add any further data to Google Drive.

Best alternative

There is always a debate on which is the best service provider. Someone recently told me that getting a subscription from Microsoft is better than Google. I'm yet to explore that option. They say for personal accounts, we can get a paid version, and additional space is up to 1 TB, which is great. If we are going to be paying the same amount, then paying to Microsoft can be better but yeah it is yet to be explored.

Another best alternative would be to have our storage disk system at home and manage the storage. Today, there are many NAS systems available that are capable of providing backup options and are always connected to the Internet so that we can access the storage from anywhere. The options are available for multiple types of hard disks and even a combination of two different types of hard disks.

Some people still say that the Google One subscription is the best. I also think so because all we need is some extra space and that is provided by Google One and we don't need any additional fancy stuff that other providers are giving us. The other main reason is that Google Drive is more convenient compared to the other services because we are all used to it.

Hive Power Up Day - May 1st 2025

This is a very helpful post. I always wondered what would happen if someone stopped paying for Google One. It's good to know that Google won't delete the extra data immediately and that it will just block new uploads. I also liked the part where you shared about other options like Microsoft and using a NAS at home.

usually i just keep my data on hd and external disk, i don't like to rely on internet servies

I use both services and it doesn't delete either and we can add OneDrive to Google one Drive as well.

I have never subscribe to those online storage, but I do use some of Google free storage from google drive. And somehow, as a person who lost so many memories photos, having an online back up come handy sometimes, although it can be expensive.

I have never tried the NAS system, maybe I can look into that as well.

that is a great thing. we now a days rely a lot on google to save our data on their servers.

Do people actually use those Google One and the likes?
I don’t use them though. I have a way of storing my files
