The Chaffinch (4pics)

Greetings, friends.

The Chaffinch

I met this restless guy on a morning walk in Kaliningrad. Maybe I wouldn't have noticed him, but his voice attracted me.

What do I know about Chaffinches? If I say that it's practically nothing, then I'm not lying. I actually rarely see Chaffinches, mostly in the spring, when they arrive from their wintering grounds and look for food at my feeder.
In summer, it is very difficult to find them in the forest; you can only hear them singing.

A songbird of the finch family. The size is 14-18 cm. The habitat consists of North Africa and Eurasia. It is widespread and one of the most numerous bird species in Russia. The main food is grains and plant seeds, but the chicks are fed by insects. Since childhood, we have been taught that birds are human helpers precisely because they eat insects.

I decided to search for information about these beautiful birds on the Internet and found out that Chaffinches perfectly adapt to the neighborhood with people.
These colorful birds sometimes build nests under the roofs of houses, in barns, and other structures. This proximity provides access to additional food sources, such as insects, which are attracted by lighting and heat.
I always thought that only urban swallows build their nests this way. Last week, a member of our feathered community

They use materials for nest construction that are available in the city. They use cotton wool, paper, rope scraps, and other similar materials to mask the nest.
They adapt to climate change. Due to climate change or human activity, Chaffinches can shift their migration routes and look for new suitable territories to live in.

My trip to Kaliningrad gave me a lot of new information about birds. The kids laugh that I photograph birds a lot. During my trip to the Curonian Spit, I wanted to go on a bird watching tour, but the children did not support me in my desire. I obeyed them. This will remain my dream for my next trips to this region.

Классные фото!👍 Очень люблю когда они прилетают в начале апреля, значит наступила весна.

В начале апреля говоришь? Не, у нас все подобные перелетные подтягиваются обычно во второй половине апреля. но в этом точно раньше были.

Always amazing how such small birds can leave a lasting impression, especially with their songs. I loved learning about how adaptable chaffinches are in urban environments. I truly hope you get that birdwatching tour on your next visit to the Curonian Spit. It sounds like a perfect match for your observant and gentle nature. 📸

@coffeelove, you touched my observant and gentle nature to the depths of my soul with your comment.
Maybe a cup of coffee? 😊
