As we keep ageing our whole-body strength starts going down. Our body strength is not the same at 60 as it was in 30 but that does not mean that we cannot gain strength at 60. It entirely depends on us how we want to shape up ourself. Do we want to see ourself as a old fragile person in our 60s 70s and 80s or do we want to see ourself energetic and strong at that age like how we were in our 30s. Our muscle mass starts decreasing after our 40s and for some even from 30s, it decreases by 5% to 10% every 10 years depending on our lifestyle, and after 60s it is all the more.
But all of this can be reversed if we start working on it from our young days. A lot of young people make this mistake, In their 20s and 30s they feel that their body is young and they do not need much of exercise, they may be doing it but it may not be enough. To build up on muscle mass strength training is very important and it needs to be done right from the younger days to develop that kind of muscle strength for the old age. Somethings are not instant action and immediate results. These are things that gradually build up on our body and show results.
If you really want to be healthy and energetic in the old age, all the necessary actions for life needs to start from 30s. You do not even need to go to fancy gyms for all of these. There are simple home exercises that can be done like squats, planks, lunges, climbing steps, these are some of the simple and free ways to work. Using weights also help a lot in muscle strength.
The most important part of the body to strengthen is the core, because if the core is strong then one will feel strength in the overall body. Planks, crunches and squats are again the simpler ones to work on daily basis to strengthen the core. When you strengthen the core you will see the benefits of it in many parts of the body, like it will also strengthen your back, breathing will be better and you will also be able to do the balancing exercises effortlessly like the Vrikshasana (Tree) pose of Yoga.
How do you want to see yourself in your old age, do you want to be that fragile and dependent person or you would like to be a healthy and a independent person?
