This is the second half of January and winter is almost about to end. Today was a sunny day for the third consecutive day. Although around 1-2 in the afternoon it started feeling quite hot, but by evening the weather again became a bit cool and I thought why not go for a walk as it was pleasant weather between too cold and heat at that time.
Here on one side of the park, there is a large piece of land which is a little sloppy compared to the rest of the area, so during the last heavy rainfall all the water nearby got stored here and it became like a small lake. The last time I visited this area, it was filled with water and now when I come here, I see that it looks like a well-maintained flat ground where wonderful carpet grass is spread.
But I did not believe it, so I went near this grassland, sat down, looked at it closely and then realized that it was something else. Google Lens told me that it is known as Red Water Fern. It is a free-floating aquatic perennial fern that reproduces only through spores without seeds and flowers.
In simple words, it is an aquatic moss plant that grows rapidly on still-water surfaces. Although it may have grown naturally here, this moss is also used as a green manure because it has nitrogen-fixing abilities. But it also has many disadvantages such as it destroys aquatic life and changes the chemistry of water in favor of harmful bacteria.
But apart from all this, the structure of this tiny plant is very unique. It is so small in size that a whole plant can fit on your fingertip. And even smaller than that, its leaves have even more intricate patterns in which pink and red coloured leaves glow in between like flowers.
The most wonderful thing is that this is the young stage of this plant and after a certain time, it turns completely red. Just imagine how beautiful a big ground covered with red-coloured grass-looking carpet would look from a distance..
