I used to believe that I needed to go to the gym to be really fit. I also had this unnecessary feeling of being left behind if I wasn’t at the gym. I felt like I won’t be able to concentrate or discipline myself into working out on my own. Well guess what? It’s been Six good months of doing it and now it’s a habit. I can’t even imagine myself in a public gym. I prefer a home gym.
My resolve to workout at home started after my number was accessed by just anyone in the previous gym I subscribed to. There was no protection of client privacy. It was irritating and just plain disgusting. So, I decided to exercise at home.
How I started.
I used to always feel a lower back pain. I’m always sitting (and then stroll in the evenings) and the couch where I tended to fall asleep had sunk. I guess all these contributed to the pain I used to feel. So, I went online in search of remedies. To my surprise, I saw Yoga.
Mind you, I used to think Yoga just involved breathing and some insane stretchy exercises. However, I was corrected when I learned it worked not only for mindfulness but also for muscle and endurance power. How ignorant I was. To begin, I decided to download a yoga app.
That’s where the fees came in. Luckily, I found one called the DownDog and to my knowledge it was free. I set it up, chose my preferred sound, voice and duration. I started with Beginners. So, for the past six months, I practiced with Alexa for free. From Vinyasa to many others I can’t pronounce.
The first thing I noticed was how the lower back pain disappeared. During one of the twist exercises, I heard a crack sound just at my lower back and it felt like tension left me. But guess what? I did not limit my exercises to just Yoga.
I practice Yoga five times a week for 15 minutes daily (this is adjustable too). The beautiful thing about it is it is free and the team are so friendly and supportive. When I wrote to them that I couldn’t afford the plan for the time being, they gave me another free six months, upgrading me to the Beginner’s Class 2.
For strength and endurance, especially cardio and core workouts, I knew I needed to add some to my routine. Another thorough search on the internet and I found NTC (Nike Training Club). To the best of my knowledge, it is free and has some of the best exercises. From athletes to even Yoga, HIITs and so much more. The best thing is how short and effective these workouts are especially if you’re one with a busy schedule. As low as 10 minutes to 25 minutes. And they really target your muscles, core and require almost no equipments (except your mat).
These apps have changed my life the past six months. They got me into the habit of exercising at no costs while spending a worthy amount of time for the results I want.
Plus, research has taught the benefits of warm lime-flavoured water each morning. A mug and a squeeze from half a lime does so much for the gut than I thought. The constant breakout of pimples on my face even seems to be stalled.
In conclusion, I don’t need to pay to exercise. I don’t need to leave my house either. These are all within reach and free even. That’s what the internet is for. We find things that we can maximise for profit especially towards our health. I’m doing that for me. You can do it for you too.
