Hello, music lovers! 🎵
On #threetunestuesday, I reflect on the music I listened to growing up and the music I had access to. And when an event reminds me of moments from my youth, I try to relive those memories through music.
A week ago, when I listened to #newtunes from various sources, I came across a band I used to listen to a lot with my friends when I was younger, one of the craziest bands I've ever had the chance to hear.
Well, about half of my group were enthusiastic (including yours truly), while the other half couldn't stand them :)
Butthole Surfers, from San Antonio, Texas, are an influential American rock band from the underground music scene, known for their bizarre, psychedelic, and often chaotic sound that combines punk, noise rock, and experimental elements. They started in 1981 and gained cult status for their unconventional humor, provocative live performances, and creative boundary-pushing.
They emerged from the hardcore punk scene and became known for their wild performances involving nudity, fire-eating, and projections of surgical procedures. After 1990, they became more palatable to the general public, and one of their singles became an MTV classic, reaching No. 1 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart. Source
By 2001, they had released eight studio albums and now perform more occasionally.

Some of their songs that I have listened to over the years still sound great to me. Even though they are old, they remain fresh.
Butthole Surfers - Pepper
The song is from their seventh and most commercially successful album, Electriclarryland, released in 1996, and, as I mentioned above, their biggest hit. Incidentally, they had some trouble with the album's title, which is a parody of Hendrix's album Electric Ladyland.
Butthole Surfers - Who Was In My Room Last Night?
The song is from 1993, from the album Independent Worm Saloon. Cover version was featured in the video game Guitar Hero II. Has anyone here played it? The censored version appears in an advertisement for Nintendo's Play It Loud!
Butthole Surfers - I Saw an X-Ray of a Girl Passing Gas
This song is from their fourth album, Hairway To Steven, released in 1988. The album's title is a spoonerism of Led Zeppelin's song 'Stairway to Heaven.' They had some legal problems with that...
The song is typical of their chaotic, absurd, and provocative style, a mixture of psychedelic punk, noise, and black humor, and it's about nothing. It's pure Dadaist nonsense, deliberately grotesque.
As a bonus, their first performance in eight years, the song Cherub, from the first album 'Psychic... Powerless... Another Man's Sac'
from 1984.
