Glenn Hughes - Voice In My Head
Glen Hughes, an English musician who has been actively playing and performing since 1973, is best known as the singer and bassist for Deep Purple. Still, he has also played with Black Sabbath, Trapeze, Black County Communion, and many others as a studio musician. He has also released 15 solo albums.
The song Voice In My Head is from his latest album, Chosen, which was released in September this year. The hard rock we can expect sounds very good and energetic, especially when we consider that Glenn is 74 years old and has been battling addiction for many years.
Hannah Frances - Falling From and Further
Hannah Frances is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Chicago who released her ninth album, Nested In Tangles, last week. It features a variety of styles and genres, from avant-folk, jazz, and progressive rock to delicate lyrics and sonic textures, which Hannah masterfully blends and harmonizes with the unconventional emotional focus of her poetry.
The song Falling From and Further speaks of the fear of abandonment and the cyclical dynamics of attachment. In style, of course. Musically, I like it because it has two speeds.
Agriculture - Serenity
Agriculture is an American band from Los Angeles that, as they say themselves, has been playing ecstatic black metal since its inception. The Spiritual Sound is their second album, released two weeks ago. Blast beats, muted guitars, and echoing screams are present throughout. Fans of the genre will be thrilled.
TANNU TUWA - Illusions III
Tannu Tuwa is an international band with members from Croatia, Italy, and the US, who recently recorded their first album, Illusions, in late September. Industrial electronics accompany rock syncopated rhythms. The music is improvised, performed, and recorded in the moment of creation.
A fascinating sound collage, whose musicality is hidden between noise and static. At times, they sound like a mixture of Nine Inch Nails and The Swans. I will follow them, as they still have a lot to say.
DARKSIDE - One Last Nothing
Darkside is an American duo from New York that has been performing since 2011. They are now a trio. Their latest album, Nothing, was released at the end of February this year, and the song 'One Last Nothing' serves as a preview for the tour and promotion of the album. I think they started a little late with this :)
But these electronic sounds and mixes of samples, vocals, and synths sound very calm, rhythmic, trippy, and dystopian.
Kula Shaker - Good Money
I have mentioned the English band Kula Shaker here several times already. They come from the Britpop movement, have been performing since 1996, and have released eight albums. They are known for their energetic live performances, having opened for Oasis for quite some time and toured America with the Dandy Warhols. They combine British psychedelia and Eastern mysticism with a critical view of reality and mockery of society as a whole.
The song Good Money is a preview of their new album, Wormslayer, which will be released at the end of January next year.
Suede - Disintegrate
Suede, an English band, released their tenth album Antidepressants in September, as I mentioned recently.
A guitar-driven post-Britpop rock song with touches of artistry, Disintegrate is already their second hit (almost) from the album, with the singer's charismatic voice and melodic guitar riffs quickly catching the ears.
Slomosa - Dune
Slomosa is a Norwegian band from Bergen, active since 2020. With their stoner guitar riffs and grunge rhythms, they caught my attention last September with the release of their second album, Tundra Rock. After a year of successful performances across Europe, they released a second video for this album, for the last song, Dune.
I recommend it to all lovers of stoner sound.
The Internet killed the video star
πΆ That should be all for today, but I'll allow myself one more opinion concerning the global music industry market, as well as older generations (including my own) who consumed music through television:
I read in the media that MTV, or rather its owner Paramount Global, will shut down all music channels at the end of the year after 44 years of broadcasting. At the height of their popularity, MTV shows transformed promotional videos into works of art, launched music careers, pushed fashion trends across borders, and defined youth culture. But the world has changed, and traditional music television has become obsolete. This is mainly because viewing and media habits have changed dramatically in recent years, with social media channels and streaming platforms becoming fierce competitors that television channels can no longer compete with, and more personal ways of experiencing music now prevail.
The first video to become famous on MTV was Video Killed The Radio Star, from 1979. Funny, it happened to the video, not the radio, haha.
Thanks for your attention, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!
