Bean cake known as akara in the South East of Nigeria is a street dish that used to be mainly for the weekend but this today it can be gotten on daily basis, from Sunday to Monday. It is prepared majorly with black-eyed peas or better still you can refer to it as Nigerian beans.
I love this dish especially when it's in combo with pap, bread and tea or custard. I can afford stressing myself, putting in time and energy including my physical cash just to go get when i want it. The stress motivated me to go get the knowledge on how to prepare it.
Making my Nigerian Bean Cake
One thing spectacular about this dish is that it doesn't really require mush ingredients to come well with it's taste.
Ingredients for my akara making
- 400g of Nigerian Beans
- 100g of onion
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 10 pieces of fresh pepper
- 150ml of vegetable oil
First step
The first and most important is to pick the beans and wash it well. Then cut the onion and wash the pepper.
If the above is done, pour into the blender and blend well, being conscious of the amount of water you add. For my mine, i do not know what the power supply company will say is our offense, there hasn't been power. So i had to take mine to a public place to grind.
Second step
Came back and added my salt stir well and set aside, in a pot pour in the vegetable oil and heat it up, once it's hot you scoop in the quantity you want in a pan one step at a time remember to reduce the light for the fry is done in a low heat else it will get burnt.
Taana!!! Our akara is ready to be served in what ever way you want serve it, even if you want to eat just like that.
