Hay veces que uno ve las situaciones de algunas personas, y ve lo difícil que se hace para ellas el poder revolverlas. Sobre todo eso pasa con las personas mayores que viven solas, ya sea porque no tuvieron hijos, o por el hecho de que sus hijos por alguna razón no están cerca de esas personas.
Y eso le complica mucho la situación a las personas mayores, ya que en ocasiones se les presentan problemas, que se les cuesta resolver por el hecho de estar solas, y por lo cara que se ha vuelto la vida en estos momentos.
De hecho, hay personas mayores que están jubiladas de su empleo, y reciben los beneficios de la jubilación, sumados a la pensión que da el Estado, y esos fondos, en ocasiones, no les da para cubrir los gastos básicos, las medicinas y la alimentación.
Por eso, cuando a esas personas se les presentan problemas, que necesitan una respuesta inmediata, entran en un estado de angustia, debido a que no tienen la posibilidad, ni física, ni económica, para poder actuar inmediatamente y resolver el problema.
Esta semana, se me presentó, esa situación con una vecina, que tiene cerca de 80 años, y a ella se le rompió una llave de agua, y tuvo que dejar su apartamento sin agua, sin que nadie la ayudara.
Al enterarme, bajé a ver la situación de su apartamento, y pude resolver el problema, colocando una extensión y un tapón de media pulgada. Y hoy me llamó la señora, para pedirme que le colocara la llave nueva, lo cual hice, y además la apoyé con otra situación que tenía en su casa.
Por supuesto, no le cobré, pero el plomero que le iba a resolver el problema a la señora, le estaba cobrando 20$ por cambiar la llave, más 30 por arreglar el fregadero, más los 12$ de las refacciones. La pregunta es como una persona mayor, que entre la jubilación y la pensión, no llega a los 30$ mensuales, iba a poder pagar las reparaciones.
Es terrible ver cómo las personas de la tercera edad, que son profesionales y que trabajaron toda la vida, reciban una pensión y una jubilación tan pequeña, que no les permite tener calidad de vida. Depende muchas veces de los bonos del gobierno para poder subsistir, debido a una realidad económica agravada por las sanciones unilaterales de los EE. UU., y la UE, y ahora hay que sumar las nuevas sanciones y los nuevos aranceles.
Pero la realidad, es que estas presiones económicas y políticas de los Estados Unidos y los seguidores de sus políticas, no afectan, ni debilitan a los gobiernos que desean derrocar, pero sí lastiman y le quitan calidad de vida a las poblaciones de los países, a los que ellos imponen las sanciones.
Queda de nosotros, como población, el tratar de ayudar a las personas más vulnerables y sin capacidad de producción, por su edad o por su estado físico, a que tengan una mejor calidad de vida.

5-minute daily prompt: Solidarity in difficult times. Supporting the elderly.

There are times when one sees the situations of some people, and sees how difficult it becomes for them to be able to turn them around. Especially that happens with older people who live alone, either because they did not have children, or because their children for some reason are not close to those people.
And that complicates the situation a lot for older people, since sometimes they have problems that they find difficult to solve due to the fact of being alone, and because of how expensive life has become right now.
In fact, there are elderly people who are retired from their job, and they receive retirement benefits, added to the pension that the State gives, and these funds, sometimes, it does not give them to cover basic expenses, medicines and food.
That is why, when these people are presented with problems that need an immediate response, they enter a state of anguish, because they do not have the possibility, neither physically nor financially, to be able to act immediately and solve the problem.
This week, I was presented with this situation with a neighbor, who is about 80 years old, and she had a water faucet broken, and she had to leave her apartment without water, without anyone helping her.
When I found out, I went down to see the situation of his apartment, and I was able to solve the problem, putting in an extension and a half-inch plug. And today the lady called me, to ask me to put the new key in, which I did, and I also supported her with another situation that she had in her house.
Of course, I didn't charge her, but the plumber who was going to solve the problem for the lady was charging her $20 to change the faucet, plus $30 to fix the sink, plus the $12 for the spare parts. The question is how an elderly person, who between retirement and pension, does not reach $30 per month, was going to be able to pay for repairs.
It is terrible to see how senior citizens, who are professionals and who have worked all their lives, receive such a small pension and retirement, which does not allow them to have quality of life. He often depends on government bonds to survive, due to an economic reality aggravated by unilateral US sanctions. USA., and the EU, and now we have to add the new sanctions and the new tariffs.
But the reality is that these economic and political pressures from the United States and the followers of its policies do not affect or weaken the governments they wish to overthrow, but they do hurt and take away the quality of life of the populations of the countries on which they impose the sanctions.
It is up to us, as a population, to try to help the most vulnerable people without production capacity, due to their age or physical condition, to have a better quality of life.
