Hello everyone, very good morning. I am a coffee lover, it is one of the experiences that I enjoy the most every sunrise, like today that comes from a night of thunderstorm and thunder, and even the morning is still very fresh. The other coffee related experience that I also enjoy, is collecting cups, big or small and of any material and design.
I get excited every time I manage to increase my mug collection because I love each and every one of these pieces. I have opted to integrate unbreakable mugs to the collection, such as plastic ones, for everyday use, since I have lost some ceramic pieces due to the antics of my michis.
Recently, I received a very beautiful little gift from a friend. A true collector's item, since apart from being scarce, it is part of our llanera culture. It is a pewter cup or bowl, as it is known in the llanero slang. Apart from the clay cups, and the typical totumas or taparas, in this region of the country, it is customary to drink coffee in pewter cups, it is something traditional in every house.

In my childhood I saw many of different colors and motifs, in the family home, and I remember that they were found in the markets, or in the sales of perolitos. I had several until a few years ago, but they deteriorated with time and use. When I saw my gift, I was very excited, and my friends already know that I collect cups, and that I was missing the pewter one.
I have been looking for one of these pieces for months, and the attempts were unsuccessful. To my surprise, I was told that they were extinct, that they were not being marketed for a long time. That seemed so out of context to me, since this type of cups are typical of this area, and I could say that it is a basic piece in the homes of the llaneros. Especially on farms, in country houses, etc.
So here I am enjoying my pewter cup, with a delicious coffee, and to finish giving it a more typical touch of our plains, I accompanied it with a traditional breakfast based on fried arepa, eggs, plantain or slices, and grated cheese. The perfect combination. I hope you enjoyed today's post, thanks for visiting my blog... happy Thursday to all of you.
