New toy installed..

in Photo-essay3 days ago (edited)

Good day ,

Today a post with something else then "normal" Photography from me

The new toy i got today is a Shelly Wall Display , a smart home control panel .
Since they opend the possability to use it with Home Assistant i got intrested and orderd one last Saturday.

A new addon for my home automation or as some call it Domotica.
For my home automation i use the software called Home Assistant.

I use it to control my lights , keep track of my energy consumption , to control my covers , and keep track of temperture and humidity in the house.
and also CO2

screenshot of last months energy , it gives you a nice insight on what equipment is using the most power .

But it also keeps track of al my servers in my house there are many things you can do with it and automate , for instance each morning 2 hours after sunrise my sun screenings will be lowerd to keep the house cool .

Questions you might ask :
Do you need it ? Maybe not today but we ain't getting any younger so better to be ready .

It's like drinking beer you don't need to you can also drink water .

The package .. yes we love smart toys

opening up ..i always open the bottom of the box so i don't need to worry about packing materials .

there it is

yeah another box in a box

ahh there is the display

Connecting it to 220v and we can start.

Typical with all devices , always update first 😂

first update downloaded , oh you want to use it with homeassistant , here is another download for you ..

time to install Home Assistant on it .

Time to install it on the wall , then i needed to create a dashboard with the things i wanted to see on the display for now.

The menu for the sun screens / covers in case of bad weather easy to raise them again if needed.

Weather forecast just for fun

Light control menu, brightness and colour control , if you wanted too you could change the brightness based on the measured Lux in the room.

all temperature sensors in the house at the moment no worry that 40 degrees is a server CPU 😉 , and no we don't have an airconditioner in the house.

And finally the standard shelly menu , and it als functions as a normal light switch ;)

Is it difficult to use Home Assistant ?

Well setting it up does require some knowledge , but using it on your phone or on this display can be userfriendly if setup properly .

Yes i could make everything even voice controlled in the current setup without the use of Google , Siri or Alexia and keep everything local .

I even have some security cams integrated it's just fun to play with , i know other people like to watch sports instead.

So if you have suggestion or questions about domotica or Home Assitant let me know ion the comments below.

Catcam? :p

yup we have multiple security camera's in the house , this one is in the living room where we keep the cat at night , but it's motion activated so you see all the misfits she does at night, and this one is connected to a smart power plug so that i can track how much power a camera uses over a period of a year.

Oh... I thought it was one of those that kitties carry around with them.

The power usage tracking is pretty cool!

yeah we all but equipment that consumes electricity , and still we wonder at the end of the month why is the bill so high 😂 , so this way i try to keep track on the heavy consumers.

I find that interesting. It would be great if it could be connected somehow/Bluetooth/wifi, to my existing electrical box where there are fuses for all clients. It's about 10 years old. I haven't looked at anything or checked to fit any automation, but your post made me think of this.

I have no idea because we have never used anything like this before, but I am a fast learner when it comes to using technology. I think it is useful, many homes today are now smart homes. I think these assistants are part of what makes them smart. Enjoy it, man!

Those IOT devices are really interesting. I played around with home assistant a little with my tempest weather station. I really need to put some more work into it.

Just built a VM server so its perfect time to do that honestly.

ahh are you using proxmox ? and i just found another display that got my intrest

the factory is even communicating in the HA comunity on how you can get it to work with Home Assistant :)

Yep using proxmox. I should do a post on the build.

Yeah HA is pretty cool.

i'm plannning on using proxmox on my current router, already tested it using proxmox on a USB stick , and using the NAS as drives with NFS , managed to get the router software to work , so if get that migration done i can move / migrate all my docker containers from my NAS to the proxmox server , was actually wondering if it would be possible to run a hive witness in proxmox just for the fun of it .
