Namaste to all fellow players of Splinterlands!
In this week's Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge, we’re taking a step back from battles and strategy to reflect on the journey, the obstacles we face most often in the game, and advice based on our experiences
The biggest hurdle I faced when learning Splinterlands!
I have been on the Hive platform for two years, and I was aware of Splinterlands from the very beginning. However, due to my fixed mindset about card games, I was not ready for it. Then after reading the weekly Splinterlands blogs, I felt that there is something different in it and it looks like a card game but it is quite different from that and I started getting attracted towards it and with the advice and guidance of my ultimate guru @alokkumar121 Bhai on Hive, my journey on Splinterlands started about one and a half years ago. In the beginning, everything was undoubtedly very confusing, so many cards, their different stats, abilities and their countless combinations, just thinking about all this would make my head spin. So the biggest hurdle for me when learning Splinterlands, and I would say still is to some extent, was learning and memorizing the different abilities of the cards, their uses and combinations.
Feature or mechanic took the longest to fully understand!
This may seem unnecessary, but it can be a great lesson for you. It took me the most time to understand the importance of the lineup. Understand it this way that no matter how many powerful, expensive, rare, and legendary cards you have in your deck, if you do not have the understanding to line them up in a battlefield, then you will lose even the easily won battles. Imagine if you place a card with three-four-or-five melee power somewhere in the backline instead of the first position in normal conditions or place a three-four-or-five range attacker in the first position in the lineup in normal conditions, then that card will be of no use to you in that battle because range attackers cannot perform from the first position and melee attackers cannot perform from any position other than the first unless they have special abilities.
Advice I would give to my past self—or a brand-new player—starting today!
After hearing about this game for a long time, when I started playing it, many times after continuous defeats, I used to get frustrated and stop playing it for a few days, which was a big mistake because only by playing continuously and learning from the mistakes made in your defeats, you can make a better strategy to move forward. This happens in real life too, the best lessons are learned only after losing, provided you find your mistakes in those defeats and work on them. So my one advice would be that regardless of the result, watch every battle of yours completely without skipping it because the real action and reaction on the battlefield will give you really good lessons which eventually helps you to improve your in-game ranking.
Specific players, guides, or moments that helped me grow the most!
@nozem01 has helped me a lot in the last few months to understand the game in depth and learn from my mistakes. He advised me to make Google notes if I could not remember the meaning of various abilities and rule sets, so that I could quickly access and understand them during any battle. He advised me to understand the rulesets and abilities, and also to look at my lost battles carefully and understand where I went wrong and how I can correct it. He has written many blogs in which various topics of Splinterlands have been written in detail in easy language. So mainly Nozem's posts are like a guide for me from which I have been learning a lot about Splinterlands and am still learning. However, the idea of making Google notes did not work because by then I had started understanding many things by watching the battles and the most important thing is that things get done by trying, here in this game keep trying means keep playing and then you will see that in some time you will start understanding everything and you will also be able to improve your strategies.
If you also want to enjoy this amazing game and you have not yet signed up, then I invite you to Splinterlands, and I will also try my best to guide you in this game.
