Splinterlands: Sometimes Quantity is better than Quality

in Splinterlands19 hours ago

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a battle where I saw that a larger number of monsters allowed me to overcome a level disadvantage.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Tis But Scratches. This means that all monsters gain the cripple ability. There is also 31 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for earth, death, and dragon.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
Marlai Singariel6Summoner+1 Magic
Asel Alagosdil41stDivine Shield
Saltwater Mage82ndSneak
Mystic Scaleweaver93rdSlow
Grand Consul Minion44th
Total Mana:31

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. My archon is Marlai Singariel for the +1 magic. My tank is Asel Alagosdil with divine shield. My backup tank is Saltwater Mage with sneak, followed by Mystic Scaleweaver with slow. Then I have Grand Consul Minion as my final monster because it's faster than my other monsters. This means that it can apply cripple before my magic monsters attack.

Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match can go either way, but I have a slight advantage because Asel can tank some hits while the rest of my lineup deals damage. However, it can get dangerous because my opponent has higher-level cards.

Round 4

round 4.png
A few rounds later, my opponent has 1 monster while I have 2 monsters left. There is no way for my opponent to turn this around because my opponent can't attack anymore

I won later that round.

Conclusion

The battle did go exactly as planned, but it was far closer than I expected. I didn't expect my opponent to have max-level cards, so my monsters would be slower in turn order, health, and damage. However, Asel did a great job tanking, and Minion did a great job of reducing my opponent's health.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Yeah, it was actually a very close game, and the opponent''s archon had higher levels, so that too. I like these games where the our outcomes are always close, makes the games very interesting

The positioning of Saltwater Mage makes the difference

The match was very close where Mystic Scaleweaver barely survives
