Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I saw a battle where I won because I used a good strategy.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Collateral Damage and Up Close & Personal. This means all monsters gain the reckless ability and only melee monsters can be used. There is also 55 mana available, and I can use any splinter except for earth or dragon.
This is an interesting fight because of that reckless ability. Monters will bee damaging their own team.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aurelia | 6 | Summoner | +1 Health |
| Dire Bear | 10 | 1st | |
| New Beluroc Aegis | 8 | 2nd | Taunt |
| Mad Gearhead | 6 | 3rd | Reach |
| Dread Tafarian | 9 | 4th | Heal |
| Vengeful Monk | 7 | 5th | Opportunity |
| Vicious Quilliun | 5 | 6th | Opportunity |
| Total Mana: | 51 |
My summoner is Aurelia for +1 health. I have Dire Bear as my tank. After that is New Beluroc Aegis as my backup tank with taunt. I have Mad Gearhead after that with Dread Tafarian in the fourth spot. Finally, I have two opportunity monsters.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while dealing damage and outlasting my opponent. I will be relying on my monsters to deal damage while they are up, but my middle of the lineup can't attack from where they are. They are my ticket to winning this match in a battle of endurance.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that I have the advantage. My opponent has all monsters able to attack, so he will be damaging his own lineup. Some monsters only deal 1 damage, but will deal 2 damage to his lineup.
Round 3

A few rounds later, I have no monsters, and my opponent is down to three left. There is nothing my opponent can do at this point as it is my win.

I won later that round.
Conclusion
The battle did go exactly as planned. In collateral damage fights, I like to outlast my opponent and let my opponent kill themselves. It was what happened in this match, and that is why using a good strategy is useful.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
