Hello, ladies.
Recently, the world suffered the loss of a great man, the former president of Uruguay, Pepe Mujica.
Televisions around the world broadcast the news and projected images and excerpts from his speeches. It was one of those speeches, back in 2020, that he expressed the phrase with which I began this post. Hearing it made me reflect on how right he is, and I would like to share some of my thoughts with you.
The first thing I want to share with you is that Mujica's quote is a reinterpretation of the Cuban Apostle, José Martí:
A man is not measured by the number of times he falls, but by the number of times he is able to get up
On this topic, there is a world of popular phrases and sayings that I will draw on to share my thoughts and see how so many great minds have thought and reflected on this subject.
(With due respect, of course.)
In life, everything is learned through trial and error. Therefore, it is inevitable that we will fall, fail, or make mistakes from time to time.
The famous saying goes: to rectify is wise
There is not a person in the world who was born knowing everything and doing everything perfectly. We must all start by studying from the ground up. Then we learn and practice; little by little at first, and then we acquire practice, speed, and experience.
And with experience comes expertise and perfection.
The bad thing is not falling and failing; the bad thing is not taking risks for fear of falling and failing.
And by that I mean the popular saying Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
This applies to everyone, both in private life and in business. To receive a benefit, we must invest something. It's the universal law of balance. Everything has its price, and nothing comes from nothing.
Knowing all this, it's inconceivable and paradoxically very common that we fear change. Human beings fear and reject change for fear of leaving the comfort and security zone they're in.
It doesn't matter if we're not well, as long as there's the possibility and fear of getting worse or struggling, even though there's hope for improvement later.
And so, girls, I tell you this: be brave and fight.
I'm not going to tell you not to be afraid, because fear lives within us, and it's precisely by facing it that we grow and move forward.
Fear is overcome with courage and bravery.
And yes, we will fall, we will receive the occasional blow from life. But it doesn't matter. For every blow life deals us, we must get up and counter with two more.
Every blow is a lesson, and little by little, experience will teach us where it's coming from and how to dodge it.
So, with each fight, we'll take fewer hits and accept more hits, and with greater precision than the last.
Why am I telling you all this? Because I've been through it, and I know what I'm talking about.
Right now, I'm a concert guitarist who has played in almost every major concert hall in my country.
I've managed to form my own guitar quartet, with which I've released an album that was nominated for Best Instrumental Music Album of its release year, in 2023.
At the same time, I'm a guitar teacher at the Las Tunas art school and the guitar teaching advisor for the entire eastern region of my country.
And my most perfect work is being a mother. I'm the mother of two teenagers who, thank God, were born with the gift of music and are studying guitar.
Talking about this topic with my husband @abelarte, he told me, "Publishing success isn't measured by the number of books you publish or sell. Those are 'empty statistics.'"
And he was referring to the publishing world, but it can also be applied to any artistic or professional endeavor.
All of those things I told you are numbers, statistics, and they don't reflect reality. The reality is that to become a concert guitarist, I had to sacrifice days, weeks, months, and years of studying. I studied until my hands and body hurt.
I participated in competitions as a student, and the ones I didn't win gave me more strength and made me study harder, until I won them.
Then, I raised the bar.
My guitar quartet demands several hours and days of me, not only studying, but also planning and writing, since all the arrangements we play are mine.
The investment in time and money is significant, but so have our results.
Dedicating myself to teaching not only in my province but also throughout the country demands triple the work and sacrifice, and at the same time, it carries greater responsibility on my shoulders. Being a teacher means being responsible for a life. Imagine being responsible for several of them.
With motherhood, anyone would think I'd stopped my work as a guitarist or teacher, but that wasn't the case.
Of course, I often wanted to quit and take off some of the responsibilities, since motherhood, as everyone knows, is my priority and the hardest job of all.
And I'm not going to go into everything it means and the mistakes one makes when being a mother, as that would fill several books.
In all these life projects, I've made mistakes, failed, encountered obstacles, and encountered bad people. I've felt like giving up several times, but luckily I haven't. On the contrary, I've known how to get back on my feet and move forward, even against the current.
So, I consider myself a person who has succeeded in life. I've accomplished everything I've set out to do.
It hasn't been easy to get to where I am.
Nor will the road ahead be easy.
Because, at this point in the battle, there are only two directions: forward and upward.

Hola, chicas.
Recientemente el mundo sufrió la pérdida de un gran hombre, el antiguo presidente de Uruguay Pepe Mujica.
Televisoras de todo el mundo replicaron las noticias y proyectaron imágenes y fragmentos de sus intervenciones. Fue una de estas intervenciones allá por el año 2020 en el que él expresó la frase con la que inicié este post. Al escucharla, me hizo reflexionar sobre cuánto tiene de razón y quisiera compartir algunas de mis ideas con ustedes.
Lo primero que quiero compartirles es que esa frase de Mujica es una reinterpretación del Apóstol cubano, José Martí:
Un hombre no se mide por las veces que cae, sino por las que es capaz de levantarse
Sobre este tema hay un mundo de frases y dichos populares en los que me apoyaré para exponer mis reflexiones y ver cómo tantas grandes mentes han pensado y han reflexionado sobre este tema.
(Salvando la distancia, por supuesto.)
En la vida todo se aprende a base de ensayo y error. Por tanto es inevitable que caigamos, fallemos o nos equivoquemos alguna que otra vez.
Dice el famoso dicho: rectificar es de sabios
No hay una persona en el mundo que haya nacido sabiéndolo todo y haciendo todo perfecto. Todos debemos comenzar estudiando desde la base. Luego vamos aprendiendo y ensayando; poco a poco primero y luego vamos adquiriendo práctica, velocidad y experiencia.
Y con la experiencia viene la experticia y la perfección.
Lo malo no es caer y fallar lo malo es no arriesgarnos por miedo a caer y fallar.
Y con eso me refiero a la frase popular de El que no arriesga, no gana.
Esto se aplica a todos a la vida privada y en los negocios. Para recibir un beneficio tenemos que invertir algo. Es la ley universal del equilibrio. Todo tiene su precio y nada viene de la nada.
Sabiendo todo esto, es inconcebible y paradójicamente muy común que temamos al cambio. El ser humano teme y le hace rechazo al cambio por temor a salir de esa zona de confort y seguridad en la que estamos.
No importa si no estamos bien mientras existe la posibilidad y el temor a estar peor o a pasar trabajo aunque luego existe la esperanza de una mejoría.
Y entonces chicas les digo esto: sean valientes y peleen.
No les voy a decir que no tengan miedo, pues el miedo vive dentro de nosotras, y precisamente al enfrentarlo es que nos crecemos y salimos adelante.
El miedo se vence con coraje y valentía.
Y sí, vamos a caer, a recibir algún que otro golpe de la vida. Pero no importa. Por cada golpe que nos dé la vida, debemos levantarnos y ripostar con dos más.
Cada golpe es una enseñanza y poco a poco la experiencia nos enseñará por dónde viene y cómo esquivarlo.
Así que cada combate recibiremos menos golpes y aceptaremos más golpes y con mayor precisión que en el anterior.
¿Por qué les digo todo esto? Porque he pasado por ello y sé de qué les hablo.
Ahora mismo yo soy guitarrista concertista he tocado en casi todas las salas principales de concierto de mi país.
He logrado formar mi propio cuarteto de guitarras, con el que tengo un disco que fue nominado el mejor disco de música instrumental de su año de lanzamiento, en el 2023.
Al mismo tiempo Soy maestra de guitarra en la escuela de arte de Las Tunas y la asesora de la enseñanza de este instrumento para toda la zona oriental de mi país.
Y mi obra más perfecta es la de ser madre. Soy mamá de dos adolescentes que gracias a Dios nacieron con el don para la música y están estudiando guitarra.
Hablando de ese tema con mi esposo @abelarte, me dijo “El éxito editorial no se mide por la cantidad de libros que publica o vende. Esas son “estadísticas vacías”.
Y se refería al ámbito editorial pero que también se puede aplicar a cualquier manifestación artística o profesional.
Todo eso que les dije sí son números datos estadísticas y no reflejan la realidad. La realidad es que para hacer guitarrista concertista tuve que sacrificar días, semanas, meses y años para estudiar. Estudiaba hasta que me dolían las manos y el cuerpo.
Participaba en concursos cuando estudiante y los que no ganaba me dan más fuerza y me hacían estudiar más.
Hasta ganarlos.
Entonces, subía el nivel.
Mi cuarteto de guitarras demanda de mí varias horas y días, no solo de estudio, sino de planificación y escritura; ya que todos los arreglos que tocamos son míos.
La inversión en tiempo y dinero es grande pero así de grande también han sido nuestros resultados.
Al dedicarme a enseñar no solamente en mi provincia sino también el resto del país exige el triple de trabajo el sacrificio y al mismo tiempo conlleva mayor responsabilidad sobre mis hombros. Ser maestro es ser responsable de una vida. Imagínense, ser la responsable de varias de ellas.
Con la maternidad cualquiera pensaría que detuve mi trabajo como guitarrista o maestra y no fue así.
Por supuesto que muchas veces quise abandonar y quitarme algunas de las responsabilidades ya que la maternidad como todos saben es mi prioridad y el trabajo más difícil de todos.
Y no voy a adentrarme en todo lo que significa y lo que uno se equivoca cuando es madre, ya que eso daría para varios libros.
En todos estos proyectos de vida me he equivocado he fallado, me encontrado con obstáculos y gente mala. Varias he tenido ganas de renunciar, pero por suerte no lo he hecho. Al contrario, he sabido cómo ponerme otra vez en pie y avanzar, incluso a contracorriente.
De modo que, considero que soy una persona que ha triunfaro en la vida. Todo lo que me he propuesto lo he realizado.
No ha sido fácil llegar hasta donde estoy.
Como tampoco será sencillo el camino que me queda por delante.
Porque, a esta altura del combate, solo hay dos direcciones: para adelante y arriba.
