ENGLISH

When I read the question for this new prompt in The Silverbloggers Chronicles - Prompt #18 - A Moment in History, an event immediately came to mind that marked one of my favorite decades—the 1980s—and that defined my generation, because in its wake there were so many changes around me, from movies and tourist excursions to statues. It was none other than the appearance of Halley’s Comet; as a result, we came to be called the Halley Generation, if you’ll pardon the redundancy.

I go back to those years and remember the colorful fashion of hot hues—fuchsia, reds, oranges, and others—and the tousled hairstyles, not to mention the spectacular music; but in the midst of all this, news began to spread that we were going to have a visit from this dazzling comet in 1986. I was exactly 14 years old, right in the middle of adolescence, and I remember that the media at the time—TV and radio—said it was a once-in-history event.

Well, it’s a comet that only passes by or near Earth every 76 years; they said a human being only had the chance to see it once in a lifetime. So I felt special to be able to witness this historic event and be one of those people who could say, “I was there,” especially since everyone around me was talking about it—at my high school, among my family, and with my neighbors—everyone was on tenterhooks, and I couldn’t be any less so.

Even around that time, a movie called "La Generación Halley" premiered in my country, starring the artists of the moment, like our beloved singer Melissa... What beautiful memories that time brings back! And of course I went to see it in the theater; I felt like I was part of something unique, something that was only happening to those of us who were there—and it was.

And although on the day of the event itself I couldn’t see it clearly, I made sure to watch it over and over in every televised image I could find, and it really was something beautiful to see. In my country, they really took advantage of the comet’s passage boom, organizing tourist tours to the best viewing spots—mostly in the small towns, rather than in the city where I was. They even made statues, among other things. My greetings, dear friends!

Yesterday, I was thinking about 1986. And how awesome it was for those whom seemed the Comet back them. And if I could be able to watch it myself

It was a beautiful time; it was something very impactful, as there was a lot of publicity and many interesting studies about it, marking a before and after for a generation!

At that time, I was in sixth grade, and I remember that they took us to the planetarium in what was then Parque del Este. It was magical to see a representation of the comet, and of course we had to do homework on that topic. I didn't remember the movie, thank you for bringing it back to my memory.
