Three Tune Tuesday - Afghan Whigs

in Music11 days ago

Hello, music lovers! 🎵

On #threetunestuesday, I reflect on the music I listened to growing up and the music I had access to. And when something reminds me of moments from my youth, I try to relive those memories through music.

I've been following this band since it first started.

🎵 🎧 🎵

For those of you who aren't (yet) familiar with #threetunetuesday or #ttt: these are the hashtags you need to use when posting.
It's a music initiative started by @ablaze, and with his words, the gist is as follows:

Every Tuesday I'm going to share 3 songs that I like to listen to, and I invite your feedback in the comments below. Better still, why not have a blast of your own Three Tune Tuesday and mention me in the post and I'll come and find the post and upvote it. If you could also use #threetunetuesday tag that would be great, as that is what I use when sifting through all the entries every Wednesday. It'll be a sweet way for us all to discover new music. You'll also be in with a chance of winning the reward.

The Afghan Whigs are an American alternative rock band from Cincinnati that has been active since 1986. As I mentioned, I’ve been following them since the very beginning of their career. I’d kind of forgotten about them—in fact, they went on hiatus and stopped performing between 2001 and 2011—but now they’re active again, and a few singles from their upcoming 10th album, Soft Control, which comes out in a few days, are getting quite a bit of play, according to streaming services. They haven’t faded into obscurity like some others.
I’ve mentioned them in #newtunes a few times.
At first, they were more garage/punk-oriented, but then they developed a distinctive, more soul/R&B-tinged sound. The lyrics are mostly personal, dealing with relationships, obsessions, passions, and addictions. Although they never achieved global success, they still enjoy cult status among listeners and music critics.

The Afghan Whigs - Sammy

The song is from their second album, Up In It, released in 1990 on the Sub Pop label. They were the first band not from Seattle to record for that label. Early, raw garage/alternative rock, with sharp guitars and an energetic rhythm. A plea for closeness, friendship, and intimacy.

🎵 🎧 🎵

The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen

The song is from 1993, taken from the album of the same name, and is their biggest hit. According to music critics, the album is considered one of the key works of alternative rock in the ’90s. Alternative rock blends with R&B and soul influences. The title is ironic and turns out to be a pretense.

🎵 🎧 🎵

The Afghan Whigs - Algiers

“Algiers” is a song from the 2014 album Do to the Beast, their first studio album after an 11-year hiatus. It has a more atmospheric feel, oscillating between soul and spaghetti western, with vocals that are more subdued and less strident than in their early days.

🎵 🎧 🎵

And as a bonus, again, House of I, from the new album Soft Control, which will be released in a few days.

That's all for now — keep enjoying the music and the summer heat!
This is my 91st post for #threetunetuesday, which @ablaze started.
I hope what I'm sharing is enjoyable for others, too, because then it makes sense.

Glad to know they are back, it must be nostalgic to have them around again. 🤗

Of course. It takes me back to my youth :) But their new music is really good, too.
Thank you for your support!

I just admire your taste in music, I made my dad listen to some and he's like, "Where did you find it?" Hehe. I guess he's really impressed.

Oh, I'm glad. I like to share music if I think it's listenable 😎👍🎶

Wow, that's interesting to follow a band for quite a long time as since 1986! You really love those kind of music.😊

The band isn't my top favorite, but I listen to them occasionally.

That's okay. It nice that it appeals to you to
