Owen James - When I Stand
Today, we’ll start with Owen James, an American singer and songwriter. He’s relatively new to the music scene; he’s a new name to me as well. Lately, his popularity has been growing, especially on streaming platforms such as Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and TikTok. Country, folk, and Americana are his genres. He hasn’t released a full album yet, but he released four singles in 2026.
The song 'When I Stand' is his first single, which went viral on TikTok. It’s a soothing, emotional, and introspective ballad about perseverance, support in difficult times, and loyalty.
Dubioza Kolektiv - YEBIGA
Dubioza Kolektiv is a Bosnian-Herzegovinian ska/reggae/punk band from Sarajevo, one of the most recognizable and biggest bands in the Balkans. They have been playing for over 23 years and have released several singles, a few EPs, and nine studio albums.
They are known for their energetic performances, sharp socio-political lyrics, satire, humor, and a mix of musical styles (reggae, dub, ska, rock, and Balkan folk elements). Their lyrics often criticize corruption, nationalism, bureaucracy, capitalism, war, and the everyday absurdities of life in the Balkans.
The song 'Yebiga' (a Balkan expression for “Fuck it”) is their latest single, released last week. It’s a short, energetic song in typical Dubioza style, criticizing AI as it takes over through technocracy and digital surveillance. Fuck it :)
Plantoid - Splatter
Plantoid is a British trio from Brighton. They have been on the music scene since 2010 and have released two studio albums to date, the latest, 'Flare, released in late January. They are known for their complex compositions, angular rhythms, heavy fuzz riffs, jazz influences, and psychedelic elements. Progressive rock and math rock genres, with a subtle, erratic sound and groove.
The song "Splatter" is from their latest album; it is unusually short for them, more rock-oriented and energetic than the others.
All Them Witches - Starting Line
All Them Witches is an American band from Nashville, Tennessee. I’ve mentioned them several times in #newtunes. They’ve been playing since 2012 and have released six studio albums to date. They’re one of the giants of contemporary rock, known for their heavy, hypnotic, stoner riffs, extended jam sessions, atmospheric sound, and a mix of classic rock, blues, and psychedelia.
The song "Starting Line" is their latest single, a preview of their new seventh album, House Of Mirrors, set for release in May. A rock classic with a punchy, powerful rhythm and a repetitive chorus, it’s sure to be a huge hit.
The Animeros - Mamba Mambo
The Animeros is an American trio from Austin, Texas. They’re a new name to me (they formed in 2024) and are quickly becoming one of the most recognizable and popular acts on the Latin retro rock scene. Their music draws inspiration from Colombian chumbia, Mexican bolero, surf rock, psychedelia, and dance rhythms. With their energetic performances, they quickly get the audience dancing and having fun. The fact that they’ve gained such rapid exposure on the global music scene is undoubtedly thanks to Dan Auerbach (The Black Keys), who supports them through his own label, Easy Eye Sound. So far, they’ve released seven singles and one EP, and we’re still waiting for their first studio album.
The song 'Mamba Mambo' is their latest single, released a few days ago. The perfect groove for summer vibes.
Violet Grohl - 595
Violet Grohl is an American singer and songwriter from Los Angeles, California. Music fans will undoubtedly associate her with Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), and they’d be right. She is his eldest daughter. Now 20 years old, she grew up in a musical environment, sang with her father, and is now pursuing a solo career. She has a powerful, melodic voice with a grunge edge and direct, confident lyrics.
The song '595' is her latest, third single and a preview of her debut album 'Be Sweet To Me,' which is set to be released at the end of May. A pleasant surprise for me—poppy retro or even next-gen grunge—I actually think it’s even better than some of the Foo Fighters’ new tracks.
Fai Laci - Elephant
Fai Leci is a band from Boston, Massachusetts. They’ve been active since 2022 and have released several singles and two EPs. Another new band for me, and yet another one produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach on the Easy Eye Sound label. Indie and alt-rock genres, strong melodies, sharp riffs, and introspective lyrics.
With the song 'Elephant,' they’re announcing their debut album “Elephant in the Room,” which is set to be released in June. A beautiful melody, sharp riffs, and a catchy chorus. It’s almost like I’m listening to The Black Keys :)
Little Barrie - More Bad Miles Of Road
Little Barrie is an English rock band from Nottingham. They’ve been playing for twenty-six years and have released several singles and seven studio albums. The band is probably best known to music fans as the creators of the theme song for the series Better Call Saul. They produce a raw, organic, classic rock sound from the ’60s and ’70s. They bring to mind Traffic, Cream, and also The Black Keys (of course, the Easy Eye Sound label...)
The song 'More Bad Miles Of Road' opens their latest album, Gravity Freeze, released in late February. A groovy, rhythmic bassline and an exceptional guitar riff with a slightly psychedelic touch.
🎶 That should be all for today, thanks for your attention, and enjoy your weekend with new songs!
