Hello, beer lovers! 🍻
We are already in the tourist season here. The migration of people to the coast started last week when I watched the motorcades from my field. My wife is on holiday for the next 10 days, and my younger son has no commitments. And yesterday, we also went to our favorite destination, the island of Pag, in Croatia. But we arrived very late. I will tell you why later.
But today is a new, sunny, and hot day. I put two bottles in the fridge this morning, one Croatian and one Austrian.
And now, after my first swim this year, I will empty them and share the experience with you. 😜 🍺
Barba Pale Ale
Brewed by Lab Split, Split, Croatia.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.0% ABV, 45 IBU. It's Pale Ale style beer.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Barba is a Pale Ale type of beer, coming out of the first craft brewery in Split. It is modestly hopped with Cascade, Columbus, Mosaic & Simcoe hops. Each hop is carefully balanced to offer blend of floral, grapefruit, piney and citrusy aromas. A light sweet body, along with mild hoppy bitterness, create a refreshing, zesty ale, an ideal first beer if you are getting into craft beers. Keep it cool and drink fresh.
The beer is golden in color, and the head is average, disappearing quickly. It smells of hops and herbs. The first sip slides smoothly down the throat, with a pleasant bitterness, accompanied by herbs and a slight citrus note on the palate. In the background, hints of malty sweetness are present.
A slight hop bitterness lingers in the aftertaste for some time.
A very drinkable and summery beer! I have tried many Croatian beers, but this brewery is new to me. Even at the Hivefest in Split last year, I didn't see it. A perfect pale ale, well chilled and with a picture of a sailor, Barba means a kind of experienced sailor; it refreshed my day in this summer heat.
I found it on the island of Pag, in a shop where "they solve all your liquid problems!" :)
As I mentioned at the beginning, yesterday my family and I went on holiday. We didn't travel that far, only about two and a half hours. But when we got to the ferry, there was horror - a long queue stretching almost three kilometers, with cars already waiting. The season is already in full swing. We waited three hours for the ferry. In the meantime, I caught the sunset.
And at the end, when it was almost dark.
Edelweiss Weizenbier
Brewed by Brau Union Österreich, Linz, Österreich.
Bottle, 0.5 l, alcohol 5.1% ABV, IBU N/A. It's a wheat-style beer.
What do the Master Brewers say?
Naturally cloudy, golden yellow, and particularly fruity with a light banana nose. Refreshingly sparkling, this wheat beer impresses with its spicy aromas on the palate. Awarded the European Beer Star Silver 2020 and the World Beer Cup Bronze 2012.
The beer is cloudy and golden in color, with an average and persistent head. It has no particular odor. The first sip goes down smoothly, and in the mouth, I taste hints of sweetness from the wheat malt, bread, and banana.
A slight hop bitterness appears in the aftertaste and quickly disappears.
A drinkable and tasty beer, the banana flavor is typical of all wheat beers, and it doesn't disappoint here either. It's a pure classic.
And what am I listening to when writing this? Nothing from Fridays #newtunes, I didn't write the post; I was traveling for too long. However, since I'm in Croatia, I'll opt for something Croatian.
