A few years ago, I was lucky to spend a week in the city of Malaga in Spain. During that time, I fell in love with the city and its people. Everyone was very friendly to me and there is too much to do there for just a week. So a whole year would be fantastic.

For now, I have to settle for the wondrous stories of Malaga from @avdesing. But if I was there for a year, I could write my own. More than that, I would immerse myself in the language. In order to enjoy even more delightful conversations and culture. In the city that Spaniards chose to holiday in.

Thank you very much for the mention, Malaga is beautiful! Thank you!

Malage is a nice place. I think the whole of Andalucia is pretty interesting to visit or even stay for a longer period.

I would return to the Barcelona before the Olympics. Fun, welcoming, with a light that brought a smile to your face every morning.
And not the theme park for stupid tourists trying to milk their money, which is what it's become.

I think that people in Barcelona are sick of the tourists...

It probably would be where I have the sea and some mountains nearby. I really enjoyed western Mallorca or Sardegna. Sardegna isn't as touristic as Mallorca so it would be Sardegna.

Nice choice!

1 year of bagpacking in whole europe! Norway, , Sweden, denmark, Germany, spain, germany, and others!
Not specific country since Europe is so diverse and I would love to see it all :)

A tour of europe with backpack, nice idea :-)

I wouldn't go very far, to be honest, I would stay in Spain. I would go to the Pyrenees mountains during the warm season and to a village on the shores of the Mediterranean during the winter season.

Seems you are pretty happy where you are ;-)

Tough choices, I would want to visit Japan again since I last visited 10 years ago and I like it there with the people and the culture.

3 credits have been added for the liotes ranking

Japan is certainly a good choice.

I think I would choose Japan, I am fascinated by its culture, the mix between tradition and modernity, and I would also love to try its authentic food.

It seems that Japan is quite popular :-)

I'd certainly like to live somewhere cold. It could be Rio Grande do Sul here in Brazil or it could be somewhere more European, like Portugal, Belgium or somewhere like that.

I'd love to have the opportunity to live in a country like that, with a more European climate. The biggest challenge is not knowing anyone who lives in these countries and the language barrier too.

3 credits have been added for the liotes ranking

I think that people from Europe rather look for a place warmer and brazilians for a place colder :-)

haha, a reversal of tastes, it makes sense

I can't decide but I honestly wouldn't mind going to a European nation like France or Italy. I haven't been to Europe much and I keep hearing about nice locations to visit overseas.

3 credits have been added for the liotes ranking

There are some really nice places in Italy and France, it's certainly worth a visit.

I would spend the year living in the Caribbean, just as I did as a younger man. I spent years there back in the 90's, based out of Puerto Rico. It's easy to island hop and relatively inexpensive. The best part is the excellent diving and treasure hunting available, I'm an amateur treasure hunter so it's a perfect place with so many lost treasures sunk from Spanish fleets.

Spending a year as treasure hunter sounds like a great idea :-)

For me, it would be Bangkok, Thailand. I have been there a couple of times but it's always not longer than a week. I think it's a nice city, with great people, and you can find everything you need there.

Bankok is an amazing place. I think it's a good joice!

Thanks!

If money wasn't a concern, Hawaii is pretty nice.

Nice choice!

I want to go to a place where I could find peace and peace of mind, where I don't have any problems about anything.... It could be any place like it could be a seaside, forest, Greenland or a point near a mountain......

3 credits have been added for the liotes ranking

Thank you 🙏

Greenland seems a good choice to get some peace and quiet as long as a certain president doesn't want to annex it lol

Then we can only pray that May such beautiful places are safe from the president's 😀

I have not traveled the world, but what I have seen so far... I would choose: Valencia.
I'm used to living in the city and Valencia is a quiet, tame, flat, interesting city.

That sounds like a good choice!

London. Spent my university days in the UK and I loved it there. :)

London is a very special city. I don't know how it is to live there since it seems pretty expensive but it's definitely an interesting choice.

New Zealand. I loved my stay before, and living a year in the country would be great! Friendly people, lovely beaches, landscapes, food, lifestyle, and a little bit of everything :)

I'd like to visit the place as well. They say it's directly opposite from on the globe, so it's not the closest place to visit for me lol

ifit is to live without the more care fo the work aka havign enough money to cover the needs that I would go to Japan. It is a great place, a great combination of the past and also the future, and also almost some tourist palces are easy to reach by public transportation.

Seems a lot of people would go to japan :-)

I don't think I'd stay in 1 place for an entire year if given a choice. I am quite averse to the heat. Right now, I'd say New York during Spring Autumn and Winter. (Summers there are horrible)

A year in a big city... Why not?

A country I would like to visit and watch a series in is, without a doubt, Canada. The country I live in is tropical, that is, it is sunny and very hot almost all year round. I would like to experience a cold country, see the snow. In addition, Canada is a country where citizens would see the return of their taxes in public services, unlike mine. You will probably not find a much colder place as Canada and maybe you wouldn't enjoy it that much after a time but who knows ;-)

I think you had a not-so-good experience with Canada. Thanks for the advice, I think it's the kind of place for people to spend a few days or weeks. Thanks!

You should get a lot of answers on this one!

At first, I was thinking Thailand. Always wanted to visit, heard about how inexpensive life is there, enjoy a slower pace and maybe train some martial arts while I Hive from a hammock on the beachside house.

Then I thought about a whole year of that. Maybe 3 or 6 months?

Anyhow, it made me think of Ireland. I already know the language (though their dialect is THIIICK in parts) so communication would be better. Plus I have a little Irish in me so it would be great to taste a little old world lifestyle. Mixed with new conveniences of course and a country of beer to discover!

Ya. The Emerald Isle for me.

3 credits have been added for the liotes ranking

I've never been to Ireland but I definitely would like to visit it. So if you have some blood from there maybe you could trace back some family links :-)

Any place where the sun shines and no taxes are paid.

Monaco... Dubai... ???

I would go to Japan, I like the culture and education there, as well as having cars, anime and technology, as well as a lot of nature too.

Japan seems very popular here :-)

I want to live back to Japan. Maybe I just want to forget some bad memories here

3 credits have been added for the liotes ranking

It looks like if the choice was given, half of hivians would land in Japan :-)

I'd like to see more of the world while I'm here, but if I had to choose, I have no particular desire to live anywhere else than where I am now.
Maybe I would go to live in Portugal, somewhere next to the Atlantic.

3 credits have been added for the liotes ranking

Portugal seems like a very nice place...

Would I have to worry about the cost of living for that year? If yes, I'd probably have to choose a less expensive place. LATAM has its economic troubles, but it's quite far from the heat of military conflicts nowadays.

One country where I'd probably like to live is Italy. Cheaper life in the south, but probably more beautiful in the north - just a guess. Another place I'd probably like would be Japan, but probably only for a vacation, not sure if for living there for 1 year.

3 credits have been added for the liotes ranking

Choosing a place to stay for a whole year is a bit different that opting for a travel destination :-)

It sure is. Normally such a decision would require quite a research.
