Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I had better placement of monsters.
Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Back to the Basics and Equalizer. This means that all monsters lose their abilities and start with the same health. There is also 28 mana available, and I can use fire, earth, life, or dragon splinter.
This ruleset is interesting because there are no abilities and all monsters start with the same health. So, low mana monsters can work well as tanks.
| Splinter | Mana Cost | Position | Reason |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aurelia | 6 | Summoner | +1 Health |
| Spellmonger | 4 | 1st | |
| Glimmermancer | 6 | 2nd | |
| Grand Consul Minion | 4 | 3rd | |
| Wilhelmdale Deputy | 7 | 4th | |
| Total Mana: | 27 |
My summoner is Aurelia for the +1 health. My tank is Spellmonger. My backup tank is Glimmermancer. Then I have Grand Consul Minion and Wilhelmdale Deputy as my ranged damage dealers.
The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while I deal as much damage as possible. Spellmonger is a low mana card to start the match. After that is my magic monsters before my ranged monsters. I think that dealing more damage to take out monsters is better because once a ranged monster is up front, you lose their damage.
Round 1

At first glance, I think that this match is to my advantage. My opponent has a ranged monster before his magic monster, and I have a slight level advantage over my opponent.
Round 4

A few rounds later, my opponent is left down to 1 monster while I have 3. The last monster also can't attack, so there is no way for my opponent to beat me.

I won that match later that round.
Conclusion
The battle this time went exactly as planned. My opponent went for a similar lineup to mine, but I had the better lineup placement. Placing the magic monster first worked out better, as my damage was not impacted when my tank died.
You can see my entire match here.
What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.
