Splinterlands: Overcoming a level disadvantage using Marlai Singariel

in Splinterlands4 months ago

Splinterlands is a complex game, and it allows for various cards and strategies. Each fight is different as there are various rulesets applied, and this can give specific cards an advantage depending on how you use them. In this post, I talk about a great battle where I won because I used Marlai Singariel to overcome a level disadvantage.

Featured cards

Marlai Singariel is a water archon that costs 6 mana. This archon is a frontier card and it gives +1 magic to all monsters on your side. Leveling this card only increases the level of cards you can use in the fight.

Rule Set, Battle, and Plan

The rulesets this time are Standard. This means there are no positive or negative effects. There is also 71 mana available, and I can use water, life, or death splinter.

It's rare to see a battle where no other effects are active. In a way, it's a battle to see how well you can plan your own lineup. This match also has a high mana cap, so you have to maximize how well your team synergizes together.

My summoner is Marlai Singariel for its +1 magic. My tank is Port Guardian. Then I have a bunch of magic monsters after. One of them has sneak and another one has slow.

The focus of this lineup is to keep my monsters alive while my magic monsters wipe out my opponent. There isn't much to say other than that. Mystic Scaleweaver has the highest health, so I placed him there in case I am fighting a magic lineup and they have sneak.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I think that I have the advantage in this match. My opponent has an entire maxed-level lineup, but my damage is magic, and it ignores the armor my opponent has. It even ignores the shield on my opponent's tank.

Round 3

round 3.png
My opponent is left with two monsters, while I have only lost my tank. At this point, there is nothing my opponent can do because my magic monsters can't miss.

I won that match later that round.

Conclusion

The battle this time went exactly as planned. Magic monsters are very powerful when they can just cut right through the opponent's armor. It might have been a different matter if my opponent used a different archon, but it easily gave me the advantage I needed to overcome the level difference.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players use the same card.

Magic is hard to beat when you have Saltwater Mage and Mystic Scaleweaver. However, your opponent also only has the life set as a maxed-out version. That's probably why he chose this setup.

Magic is very powerful in Frontier, but I agree that knight can be annoying when it has shield, and you don't have enough magic monsters.

This is probably the best summoner in foundation mode and the price on market confirms it!

Winning against a max-level lineup when you're at a level disadvantage is always a great feeling.

Marlai Singariel is one of my favorite archons to use in Frontier matches

I just watched the battle, your opponent selection was equally good and well upgraded cards. But your water monsters were on top of their game.Kudos on this win, I really enjoyed watching the battle.

It is an overwhelming victory with the perfect lineup utilizing the magic damage bonus from Marlai Singariel

That was a good magic attack line up from you, taking your opponent by surprise.
