This week, we were extremely fortunate and blessed to be able to celebrate our oldest daughter's 4th birthday!
¡Esta semana, tuvimos la enorme suerte y la bendición de poder celebrar el cuarto cumpleaños de nuestra hija mayor!
I will never forget labor with my first child. It had been an arduous 48 hours, and possibly would have been LONGER if not for the administration of Pitocin. Naturally, we were anticipating a Christmas Eve baby -- or even Christmas DAY! 😱 But, our daughter decided to come on December 23rd, and although it can make the holidays quite chaotic, we could not be more grateful!
Nunca olvidaré el parto de mi primer hijo. Fueron 48 horas arduas, y posiblemente habrían sido más largas de no ser por la administración de oxitocina. Naturalmente, esperábamos un bebé en Nochebuena, ¡o incluso el día de Navidad! 😱 Pero nuestra hija decidió venir el 23 de diciembre, y aunque eso puede hacer que las fiestas sean bastante caóticas, ¡no podríamos estar más agradecidas!
This year, we kept the celebration small and chill~ 😎 My husband got the room decorated with all sorts of things: balloons, streamers, a banner, and a HUGE number 4 balloon that we hung from the ceiling. Our two little girls were ecstatic upon waking up to such a sight 😄
Este año, la celebración fue pequeña y relajada~ 😎 Mi esposo decoró la habitación con todo tipo de cosas: globos, serpentinas, una pancarta y un globo enorme con el número 4 que colgamos del techo. Nuestras dos hijas estaban encantadas al despertar con semejante espectáculo 😄

We asked our birthday girl what she wanted to do for her special day, and of course, we were greeted to her favorite: the park! 😂 Our oldest daughter has enjoyed any and every park ever since she was about a week old! Unfortunately, we experienced some warmer weather that had melted all of the snow, so the playground was very wet, muddy, and cold... Needless to say, we did not stay long, but the girls did have fun! 😊
Le preguntamos a nuestra cumpleañera qué quería hacer en su día especial y, por supuesto, nos recibieron en su lugar favorito: ¡el parque! 😂 ¡Nuestra hija mayor ha disfrutado de todos los parques desde que tenía una semana! Por desgracia, el clima fue más cálido y se derritió toda la nieve, así que el parque estaba muy húmedo, embarrado y frío... No hace falta decir que no nos quedamos mucho tiempo, ¡pero las niñas se lo pasaron genial! 😊
Since our daughter is born so close to Christmas time, our city already had festivities at play. In the downtown square was the HUGE 30 foot, beautifully decorated Christmas tree, along with a carousel ride. We took both of them to the ride, where they thoroughly enjoyed going on the horses! 😄
Como nuestra hija nació tan cerca de Navidad, nuestra ciudad ya tenía festividades. En la plaza del centro estaba el enorme árbol de Navidad de 9 metros, bellamente decorado, junto con un carrusel. ¡Llevamos a las dos al paseo y disfrutaron muchísimo montando a caballo! 😄

For dinner, the birthday girl requested McDonald's chicken nuggets, and we happily obliged! 😊 She had picked out her cake the day before: a lovely Oreo cheesecake... It was absolutely heavenly! 😋🤤
Para cenar, la cumpleañera pidió nuggets de pollo de McDonald's, ¡y con gusto accedimos! 😊 Había elegido su pastel el día anterior: una deliciosa tarta de queso con Oreo... ¡Estaba absolutamente celestial! 😋🤤

We continued to keep the celebration small as she began to open presents. We had Grandma join us, and she gave our daughter a lovely Barbie mermaid whose hair changes color in the water! 😲 As for us, again, what with our daughter's birthday being so close to Christmas, it can be difficult to space out the presents... But, we managed to get her a few things she really wanted. We bought her a tracing tablet, for she will be starting school next year! 🥹 A little toy vet kit...
Seguimos celebrando a lo grande mientras ella empezaba a abrir los regalos. Invitamos a la abuela, quien le regaló a nuestra hija una preciosa sirena Barbie cuyo pelo cambia de color en el agua. 😲 En cuanto a nosotros, como el cumpleaños de nuestra hija está tan cerca de Navidad, puede ser difícil repartir los regalos... Pero conseguimos algunas cosas que realmente quería. ¡Le compramos una tableta de calco, porque empieza el colegio el año que viene! 🥹 Un pequeño botiquín de veterinario de juguete...

What she REALLY appreciated, was the camera we bought for her. Her daddy is a professional photographer, and she has wanted a camera of her own ever since seeing his! 😁 She has already taken about 200 photos; I will share a couple of them here LOL!

All in all, I would say that our daughter had a great birthday -- in fact, that comes from our daughter herself! 😂 She repeatedly said throughout the day that "this is the best birthday ever!" It warms my heart because, in my eyes, it was the furthest thing from an extravagant birthday. I honestly feel bad that there wasn't more we could have done for her... We are not rich by any means, and even the party we DID put together for her nearly broke the budget...
En resumen, diría que nuestra hija tuvo un cumpleaños genial; ¡de hecho, eso lo dice ella misma! 😂 Repitió todo el día: "¡Este es el mejor cumpleaños de su vida!". Me alegra el corazón porque, para mí, fue lo más alejado de un cumpleaños extravagante. Sinceramente, me siento mal por no haber podido hacer más por ella... No somos ricos ni mucho menos, e incluso la fiesta que organizamos para ella casi se sale del presupuesto...
So, to hear her say that it was enough simply because there were balloons everywhere, or because she had a chocolate cake, or because we all celebrated together as a family... Basically, celebrating a birthday the way a child is MEANT to celebrate: focusing on what is important! 🙏 No extravagant, materialistic incentives to know that love is here. No bouncy castle to impress everybody else.
Así que, oírla decir que era suficiente simplemente porque había globos por todas partes, o porque tenía un pastel de chocolate, o porque todos celebramos juntos en familia... En resumen, celebrar un cumpleaños como se DEBE celebrar a un niño: ¡centrándose en lo importante! 🙏 Sin incentivos extravagantes ni materialistas para saber que el amor está aquí. Sin castillos inflables para impresionar a los demás.
Just focused on the fact that every age we reach is a blessing, and it has been such a joy to watch our firstborn grow and thrive! 🙏❤️
