I live in that part of the world where there is no lack of resources for almost everyone. May be not excess but still everyone has enough for themselves, I am talking about here in Oman. But back home in India, this is not the case, I see lot of people struggling even for the basic necessities of life. The main reason being the excess population of the Country and the unequal distribution of wealth. Those who have it, have it all in abundance and those who do not, really have to struggle for every penny.
India is a Country where you see huge disparity in the distribution of wealth. The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. In Mumbai I keep seeing these 2 sides. On one side there are skyscrapers being built and on the other side I see slums also which are equally large areas. There are small children and crippled old people begging on the roads whereas there are so many moving around in their luxurious vehicles. I always wonder what kind of world God has made where one does not care about food and then on the other side there is someone who is struggling for one time meal. Some people spend mindlessly whereas some are counting on pennies also. It is like living in a parallel universe.
Mumbai is a very glamorous city but behind all the glamour there is also one part of it which many people do not like to confront and it's the poverty of so many people living here. The problem is also with the people, everyone wants to come to Mumbai city, because they feel here their dreams will get fulfilled, it's kind of a delusion that people from villages have. Only when they come they see the real side of the struggle that they have to face. It is not easy to survive in Mumbai, it's an expensive city, accommodation prices sky rocket and that's where the slums keep expanding.
Life is quite strange, sometimes there are no answers to all of this and probably there will be no solutions also. For any place to thrive first of all it is important that everyone's basic necessities are met and no one has to struggle for a one time meal or clean drinking water. Again, it is not always Government's responsibility to make things better. There are some policies being rolled out by the Government but they are ineffective because the difference is so much that there is no visible impact.
When some of the Indian movies are made they showcase the poor side of India in an exaggerated way and that's where in many parts of the world people have an opinion that India is a poor and backward Country. That's not case, India is equally rich and resourceful as well.
