Good day to everyone, I am so glad that the first Social Media Challenge of the new year of 2024 will be on Beginner Tips. I did a post some time back in November 2023 to share on some beginner tips to help new players to kick start their Splinterlands journey. Today I am back again to share more tips to help players progress in the game.
Recap
What I shared in my previous post
- Finding information about the game (Splinterlands Discord, Hive Blockchain blog post, other useful websites such as Splintercards)
- Make friends in the community, study Top Battles to learn about card placement
From above, most of the things I've mentioned are on knowledge building to know the game better. This time round the focus will be on growing after gathering all the necessary gameplay knowledge.
Growth
In order to know how to grow, we must first study how the rewards are given out during matches.
Let's go line by line to understand the bonus and the reduction.
SPS Boost
- This item is controlled by the amount of SPS you've staked.
- There is a stake requirement for each league, where the max SPS Boost will be at 13.3, anything lower than this figure will mean that your staked SPS is not at optimal and will reduce your SPS earnings per match.
Win Streak
- With a good knowledge of what cards to use to improve winning chances, we will get more out of this portion of the rewards bonus. However, there may be times where we have losing streaks, but fret not, you will get better as your journey on.
Focus Cards
- Be very aware of your daily focus, using focus cards not only bring your more rewards per match, it also increase you daily focus points when you win and bring you more daily focus chest/season chest.
- So if possible, use more focus cards if you can. But do not force use focus cards if the ruleset is not viable for them and cause you to lose the match.
Gold/Alpha/Promo/Beta Cards
- Using of such cards give bonuses for rewards.
- Use them if you have them when possible. Do not force it, if it causes you to lose a match by using them.
Guild
- Joining a guild and building up the guild buildings with fellow members will about better bonus for rewards. So be active and work with guild leadership to grow the guild together.
**What Do
Low Level Cards
- Every league has a minimum level for maximum reward earnings. This is something to take note as many a times if the cards that we have might not be at its optimal level for earning. Thankfully, at bronze league there is no such requirement so grow well in bronze before progressing into higher leagues.
- The below screenshot shows the level requirement at silver league
Starter Cards (Not in screenshot above)
- Every starter card that we do not own but chosen to put into match lineup reduces the earning significantly. To overcome this, if you realize a certain starter card get used very often, rent them, the reward will outweigh the reduction.
What Do We Do Next?
Now we understand where the bonus and reduction comes from, what do we do next?
Join A Guild
- This is very important! Joining a guild unlocks many items that will aid in your growth.
- You get guild bonus, participation in brawls, purchasing of Gladius pack to get crazily strong cards.
- By participating in brawls, you get a rather decent amount of SPS if the guild does well as a whole. For me, it has been in the range of 15-20 SPS per brawl which is an amazing way for me to build up my staked SPS.
Splinterlands Challenges/Blogging
- Blog your journey in Splinterlands, engage with the community and also take part Splinterlands challenges such as Social Media Challenge and Battle Mage Secrets to get some rewards from the post.
- These rewards earned can be used to buy cards, rent cards or even buy up more SPS.
Rental vs Buying
- At early stage I suggest rental over buying.
- If you can, look back at all the highly picked cards in your lineup and watch the market to buy them and level up so that when you progress to higher leagues, you will not get penalized by the Low Level Card reward reduction.
- When in doubt or find that certain card only useful in certain situations, consider renting over buying. If over time you find that card become more and more viable for your lineup then move towards purchasing it.
Closing
That's all I would like to share now and this is only the tip of the iceberg. Do spend some time to go through what I've shared above, once in a while look at the rental/buying market to know the market direction of the cards and also find a guild to settle in and grow with them. See you in the next post!
