Winter is half over 🙂 This cabin across the lake always captures my attention. Its sits a little ways up from the water with some cedars along the shore between it and the dock.

The south end of the lake is shallow and has been frozen over for awhile now. One of our neighbors went out for a skate but I'm not sure I'm that trusting of the ice yet 😅 I took photos over several days to watch the ice forming.

Sometimes holes form in the ice allowing water to come up through and flood the top of the ice when the ice is thin and the temperatures warm up.

The holes usually freeze over and go away eventually.

Nice color in the sky on this morning. This is actually looking north, the color from sunrise was reflecting on the bottom of the clouds.

A little snow started to cover the ice on this morning.

Finally, the ice is set up and some snow covered the whole lake. The snow cover will come and go. Usually to skate you have to shovel or sweep the snow off. If you are hard core, pouring warm water over the ice will smooth out the surface for skating.
