Hello, beautiful community of bird lovers!
In a previous post, I mentioned how bird populations have been affected in the urban environment of the city where I live. Fortunately, little by little, this situation has been reversing, and we can now enjoy some of the species that are common in our central parks.
One of these species, called the Totí, is a completely dark-colored bird that, along with three other species also from the Icteridae family, delights passersby every sunrise and sunset with flights that beautifully cover the sky.
The Totí is a bird endemic to Cuba, whose scientific name is Dives atroviolacea. It is commonly found coexisting with other species, such as the Chichinguaco (Quiscalus niger gundlachii), the Mayito (Agelaius humeralis), with orange feathers on its humerus, and the Vaquero (Molothrus bonariensis), a parasitic bird that always leaves its eggs in the nests of other birds.
Of all of them, the Totí is precisely one of the largest. They like to fly in flocks, flying in the mornings to rural areas and then returning at dusk to sleep in the trees of urban parks, having learned to coexist with humans in complete harmony.
I couldn't take these photographs I'm showing you today from as close as I would have liked, but at least I was able to capture some curious moments. I hope you like these two and tell me what you think.

¡Hola hermosa comunidad de amantes de las aves!
Ya en un anterior post les comentaba sobre cómo se han visto afectadas las poblaciones de aves en el entorno urbano de la ciudad donde resido. Alegremente, poco a poco, se ha ido revirtiendo esta situación y ya podemos disfrutar de algunas de las especies habituales en nuestros céntricos parques.
Una de estas especies, es llamado Totí, ave de color oscuro totalmente y que, junto a otras tres especies, también de la familia de los Ictéridos, deleitan a los transeúntes durante cada amanecer y atardecer en vuelos que cubren el cielo de manera hermosa.
El Totí es un ave endémica de Cuba, cuyo nombre científico es Dives atroviolacea y es común encontrarla conviviendo con otras especies, como el Chichinguaco (Quiscalus niger gundlachii), el Mayito (Agelaius humeralis), de plumas de color naranja en el húmero y el Vaquero (Molothrus bonariensis), ave parasitaria que siempre abandona sus huevos en nidos de otras aves.
De todas ellas, el Totí precisamente es de las de mayor tamaño. Les gusta andar en bandadas, volando en las mañanas hacia zonas rurales para luego en los atardeceres retornar a dormir en los árboles de los parques urbanos pues han aprendido a convivir con los seres humanos en plena armonía.
Estas fotografías que hoy les traigo nos pude realizarlas lo suficientemente cerca que hubiese querido, pero al menos pude capturar algunos instantes curiosos. Espero les gusten estas dos y me cuenten qué les parecen.
