The things we do that hurt us

Greetings, everyone!

Welcome to a blessed week with a new featured contest.

Yes, there are indeed many things that we do that hurt us, yet we continue doing them, knowing fully well that there are consequences attached to them.

Let me start with someone who smokes every day. The manufacturers of cigarettes clearly state on the cigarette pack that smokers are liable to die young, yet you still see reasonable and sensible people smoking three times or more a day without considering the consequences attached to it. My uncle from my paternal family died from an illness caused by smoking. When he was alive, his complexion became very dark due to smoking. This is one of the things our young people should avoid for the sake of their health and longevity.

However, I would like to share a scenario that happens to some women who consume sugary drinks. Consuming a lot of sugary drinks or foods comes with consequences when menstruation begins. For example, if I consume sugary things, it affects me during my period with pain, dizziness, and heavy bleeding.

Let me share what happened to me. My friend baked a cake in the house during a week when I knew I was about to menstruate. I ate the cake as if I had never eaten cake before. The worst part was that my period started the following day with a heavy flow and excruciating pain. I couldn’t bear it, so I cried and shouted. My dad said, “You ate too much cake yesterday. The best thing is for you to take some medication and rest.” The pain was so severe that I had to take medication before I felt better. After that experience, I learned my lesson never to eat too many sugary foods when I am about to menstruate.

Another consequence I faced was a result of stressing myself. I didn’t know that stress could be so dangerous until I experienced it. A few months ago, I stressed myself to the point of exhaustion. We had a midnight prayer that day, and I had already been overworked. I still managed to attend the prayer meeting. Toward the end of the prayer, I was no longer myself. It felt as though my body was weak and detached. I decided to step outside. As I reached the balcony, I became unconscious. People rushed to help me and made me sit down. After some minutes, I was taken to the room. Surprisingly, I told my roommate that I needed to use the restroom, but they said I shouldn’t because of my health condition. However, I insisted because I really needed to go. After that, I returned to the room to rest until morning. I had already taken permission from my workplace to rest, and it was granted.

I stayed home from work and rested for a whole week. I ate fruits and eggs and made sure I ate properly. Since that experience, I have learned to take breaks and rest when I am tired. Having enough rest is healthy and prepares the body for the next tasks ahead.

Bad choices come with consequences, and we must face them. Someone who refuses to forgive will not have peace of mind. Forgiveness brings peace to the mind, soul, and spirit. When you are not at peace with your brother, you are at war. To feel free, you must forgive and let God take control.

This is my response to the Hivelearners featured contest week 205 episode 1

Yes ooooo 😂😂

I will eat comfortably with a soft drink

Stress could be very dangerous and if not properly managed could lead to something disastrous. Thanks so much for sharing

That was my first time, experiencing stress to the point of becoming unconscious. I felt bad about it too.
