Happy holidays! December is here, and once again I'm here to contribute to the #LadiesofHive community. This is the fourth time I've decided to participate in this fun contest to learn more about you and myself. On this occasion, I'd like to talk to you about what this time of year means to me.

Have you ever celebrated with others in a tradition that is NOT your own? If so, tell us about it. If not, would you consider it, and which holiday would you choose as your first such experience?

During this magical time of family togetherness, homes around the world take on a festive atmosphere that warms the heart. Families gather to share traditional meals, exchange gifts, and recount memorable stories. Laughter echoes in every corner, creating memories that strengthen emotional bonds. December is a time to give what is needed, forgive those who deserve it, and renew our trust in those we love.

No matter how or where, we celebrate togetherness and hope. That makes me wonder, what would it be like to celebrate another holiday?

The only one that comes to mind is Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights.

From what I've heard, during this holiday, families light a candle on the menorah, a nine-branched candelabra, for eight nights, symbolizing the miraculous duration of the oil that should have lasted only one day but instead lasted for eight days.

For eight nights, families and friends gather to engage in activities such as games and songs, creating a space of togetherness and joy. It's like Christmas Eve, only for eight nights.

I am intrigued to learn about Hanukkah. It would be an enriching experience, not only culturally but also spiritually, because appreciation for these traditions that share a common message of love and unity is the best meaning for these holidays.

If your family celebrated a holiday when you were a child, do you still have an ornament, decoration, or ritual item that was used when you were a child? If so, what is it and its significance to you?

For 20 years, my family has maintained a tradition of decorating the same Christmas tree. Although this tree is now somewhat worn, it has immense sentimental value for me because I have been putting it up for as long as I can remember.

Every year, when we take it down from the attic, it takes us hours to assemble its pieces, put up the lights, and hang the Christmas decorations. Everything is done by hand and as a family. I have put it up and taken it down so many times that I have lost count. To tell the truth, over the years we have replaced most of the Christmas decorations, there are new lights and all that, but the tree is still there and I doubt we will ever buy a new one.

Decorating this plastic tree that has become so special has become a ritual we all do together. Lately, we hardly spend any time together as a family, but my parents and siblings still get together to put each ornament on that tree.

Although we always have the option of buying a new one, this old tree is part of us, and we continue to choose to carry on our tradition.

I truly do love it when families hold on to certain items because of the memory they carry. It's a habit I believe in and I'm glad this is what your family has practiced in regards to your worn-out Christmas tree. We used to have one when Christmas day was very significant to us, and just like your family, we always redecorated every year. Eventually, it shed off completely, and we had to take it out. I still miss it, and I hope to get one for myself when I move into my own place

I should spend time learning about the festival of lights too. I've heard about it a couple of times but never bothered to check. Thanks for giving me a reason to. Hugs.🫂❤️
