Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
We live in a more devastating world where new trends that are against the not are emanating and taking over what ought to be normal. The world is currwntlyessed up with different thoughts made by man out of greed and self-will. This has led to the many inappropriate living standards that man has got to deal with.
In this discussion, let's take a close look at happens when a child is well trained and given the necessary tools to live in an already messed up world with crazy teaching, the child will be able to weather the storm and come strong and a victor and not a vanquished.
It is true that every human has the right to make a choice. Our choices however are birthed from our experiences, background and sometimes social status. That is why in sociology, it is believed that the first school a child attends, or the very first agent of socialization is the home or family. Hence, the society is filled up with a reflection of our families. This is why we need to begin to structure our families the way we want society to look like.
In decision or choice making, a parent can only act as a counselor or guide to a child. Before we go further, there is a need to know who is a child?
Who is A Child
According to the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization, a child is any individual who is between the age of zero and nineteen. As soon as an individual clocks twenty, he is seen as an adult. Or a young adult. During this period, which is known as the formative period in the life of that child, the home or parents have a crucial role to play in breeding a responsible future adult. Hence, all efforts must be put to ensure holistic training with the expectation that the child would soon become an adult who will make choices for himself.
Helping The Child To Reason
Parents should not be far from their wards. As a parent, ensure to engage your wards in nearly everything that has to do with life generally. From career to marriage to religion, to relationship, sex, preferences, gender equality, respect, and whatnot. With this, the child is being prepared for a great future. Parent should also make sure to take responsibility for their actions, thereby inculcating the same spirit in their wards.
A child who is already prepared to meet the worst will not be surprised when he or she is confronted with peer pressure. A mother for instance should let her daughter know that boys will come at her and sweet mouth her to become their girlfriend. This is done because the mother herself is experienced. What she would rather do is to make her daughter know that it could be a major distraction on her path to greatness. The same thing goes for the boy child.
In terms of religion which is one of our major focal points as Africans, a deeply rooted child will not be waded into any negativity so cheaply. Hence, parents should not make their wards take the back seats during religious activities. They should rather be in the front while ensuring that their conviction to that religion is certain.
A Changed Child
There have been stories of children who changed from the pattern they have learned from their parents and unfortunately, such children are from very good homes where the tenets of good behaviour and religion is their watchword.
To be able to make that child come back to his senses, then the root or cause of that change must be searched out.
In most cases, you will find out that changed children are from homes where parents do not allow their wards to interact with their environment. Such children had lived a triangular life with such strict supervision on their movement and all of that. As such, when they have the slightest opportunity to explore, they go haywire.
After discovering that a child is changing or has changed, the parent would have to tighten their belt to bring that child back to the normal way.
Pray for the child: Every good thing deserves to be prayed about and the one that is not so pleasant should be prayed about too. There is nothing that prayer cannot do.
Show Some Love: Remember the Child Right Act. It is a prevalent law that protects the child from all forms of harassment. Children cannot be forced to do what they do not want to do as they have rights too. When a child has been discovered to change from his normal personality, that is when they need to be loved more and not to be secluded. Then through love, parents can bring them from such a dilemma. Whether it is one gender misinformation, or religion or even social life like drugs and whatnot.
Counseling Therapy: A professional service may be needed to help the child too. When professional engage such a child, it may be a huge advantage not to lost the child totally.
