Seeds of Passion, Harvest of Purpose LOH #252

in Ladies of Hive2 months ago

Hello to all the amazing ladies here! This is my first time posting, and since @jane1289 questions relates so closely to my desired business, I’m very glad to share my answer.

1️⃣ If given a chance, what type of business would you like to put up, and why?

Ever since I was a child, I’ve loved growing food in our backyard. My father greatly influenced me in this, as he used to cultivate different fruits, vegetables, and even raise animals on the land we lived on, where he worked as a caretaker.

Whenever I felt sad, I would go to the garden, sit on a swing under the tree, and admire the greenery and the animals. It always gave me a sense of relief. That’s where my curiosity began. I started digging, cleaning, planting different crops and flowers, and helping my father tend to the animals. Among all my siblings, I was the only one truly drawn to that kind of work.

Whenever our crops yielded plenty, my siblings and I would bring fruits to school to sell. Our classmates loved our guavas because they were huge but sold at a cheap price. We also sold seriguelas and mangoes. At the end of the day, it made us happy because the little money we earned allowed us to buy small things we wanted, and we gave the rest to our parents. It was simple, but fulfilling.

Some people would even come to our house to buy vegetables and chickens. At times, we also brought our harvests to outreach program and organization we were part of, to share with others. Seeing people happy with fresh produce was truly rewarding-who wouldn’t want freshly harvested food, right?

To me, it was never about business back then, I wasn't really that business minded yet and I didn’t yet really see the potential of turning it into one. It was just something I loved doing-a hobby that relieved sadness and allowed me to work with my hands. Even as the years passed and life took me to different places with new responsibilities, my love for gardening never faded, even though I didn’t always have the time or space to do it.
Isn’t it fulfilling? Growing your own food in the backyard, harvesting it, and bringing it straight to your table-not only does it save money, but it gives a different kind of joy.

It took years before I was able to return to it again-this time, after I got married and started my own family. Through an outreach organization we joined, I met someone who owned a poultry farm and a hectare of land with crops. Talking with them opened my eyes to the business potential of agriculture. That conversation reignited my dream-because when it comes to food, you can never go wrong. It will always be a necessity, and with the right strategies, it will always have a market.

I’m glad to say that I’ve started growing food in my small backyard again. But I’ve always dreamed of buying a proper piece of land, even just a small one, far from crowded areas, where I could work freely and expand. I want to slowly grow it into a full agriculture business, reinvesting profits to make it bigger. Land may be expensive, but I’m hopeful that someday this dream will come true.
May I soon be able to enter the agriculture business wholeheartedly ❤️

2️⃣ Do you see yourself as more motivated by passion, profit, or independence?

I would say I’m motivated by both passion and profit. As I mentioned, I’ve loved this since childhood, and that passion has never changed. It’s my outlet whenever I feel stressed, and seeing food grow gives me peace and joy.
At the same time, I see its potential for profit-and that makes me happy too. Not because I want to be very rich, but because I know the income could help us save, buy small things we want, and reinvest in the business for maintenance and growth. More importantly, it could also allow me to extend a little help to others, something my family and I have been doing since I was a child through outreach programs.

For me, life feels most fulfilling and purposeful when I’m doing something meaningful-working with my hands, helping people, and creating something that benefits both my family and others. Combining passion with profit through agriculture gives me that sense of purpose.

That’s all, and I hope you enjoyed reading my story.

Welcome to our Ladies of Hive Community @hopefulsoul
I do enjoy gardening around my home as it is an extension to my nurturing nature. Simple enjoyment, providing some fragrant blooms, vegetables, fruit and spices despite my relatively short growing season over the 49th parallel. You are so blessed with a suitable climate that can grow a much wider variety.
Thanks for sharing. 💚
