Creatures. Sundarbans. Bangladesh

in Silver Bloggers4 days ago

I claim no fame to being able to recognise these beasts of the skies and the land, I guess my animal loving stops at the BBQ pit. Our guide though was a mine of information and spotting skills, so reliant on his knowledge, and that of a twitcher in the group here are some creatures. There will be no references made to Chipolte seasoning rub nor mango lime and chilli relish.

Brahminy kite

There were a lot of these Kites about, primarily scavengers, feasting on dead fish and crabs, the Sundarbans, an excellent area for them to habit.
A thing with spots and antlers

"Bambi" I shouted, which pissed the others off as it startled said Bambi who legged it back into the undergrowth.

White bellied sea eagle

The white-bellied sea eagle an opportunistic meat eater which consumes a wide variety of animals, both live or dead, he ain't fussy, fish are caught by flying low over the water and grasping it in its talons
Brown winged Kingfisher

A native of the Bay of Bengal
Grey heron

An Apex predator, this bird is common across many parts of the world. Roasted heron was once a culinary delight, a prized dish; George Neville the Archbishop of York, UK in 1465, served up 400 herons to the guests at his inauguration

Rhesus macaque

wild13.jpeg

A vegetarian creature, the closest primate to ourselves has resulted in cheap and easy upkeep in laboratories for medical experiments.

Adult males are pretty voracious lounge lizards, not fussed about the breeding season, looking to engage in rumpty pumpty with females wherever, whenever. The lady monkeys though do prefer to get it on with males that are not familiar to them. Happy swinging folks.

Hawk eagle

Water Monitor

When I was in school I was the class milk monitor.

Wild Boar

Mmmm! pork, now fire up that BBQ

Sort:

Love the kingfisher, a wondrous genus. Never seen brown ones.

Brahminy kite

Quite a successful species, I saw them in Kerala, plenty, and, in Songkhla, Thailand, there are many. Good to see some critters feel fine despite the environmental bacchanalia caused by the bald apes.

pork

Curious creatures. I saw one in Bangkok, a huge hairy one behind gates in someone's yard in the middle of the metropolis. Despite hugeness and porkness, the guy pretty soon proved to be as nice as any other pet - he wanted to meet me as a fren - probably, he felt lonely and bored alone, and then I appeared before him... he was sniffing me through the gate and watching my eyes, enjoying my company as another living being.

😞

Really doesn't pay to get too close to us humans, does it?

Great shots...the herons, the macaques, the eagle, the monitor...all stunning photos.

cheers @agmoore thanks for popping in. thanks for the positive vibes. We are not the supreme being we think we are!

Bambi dinner the monitor lizard dinner monkey dinner and that boar dinner!

Damn I miss working abroad, the wildlife you see. I remember in Gabon in Africa I had monkeys who would get high on my grass. Dirty little bastards when they are as high as kites!

LOL LOL monkeys on weed, now that I would love to see

They were so funny. They used to drop down from the rafters and forget they were supposed to land properly 🤣

Oh man, I could sit and watch stupidity for hours

I tell you the higher we got and the higher they got, I don't know who was more stupid and who spend longer looking at who

LOL

Oh boy, a feast for photography lovers to enjoy. Yup wild boar on the spit is as tasty as hell, we have warthog which does the trick.

!BEER

thanks, Joan appreciate you dropping in,
Warthog, have heard of it, it doesn't conjure up thoughts of delicious food though LOL

Couple of places in SA we have enjoyed wild meat, normally Impala and Warthog spit braai, chef had fires lit before the sun came up to make sure it was tender by lunch time, absolute treat.

In Zimbabwe (lack of fresh meat) Warthog was caught then slow cooked in three legged pot for hours, Potjiekos melted in your mouth.

sounds yummy tbh.slow cooked mmm I bet the aroma of cooking would make anyone hungry

Aroma on the air does do the trick of enjoyment when eventually scoffing it down.

LOl, dribbling here!!

Tends to get the taste buds going me thinks....

I hope you didn't bring a portable grill. 😅

... served up 400 herons to the guests at his inauguration

😮 I just hope some people don't read this... because we will run out of herons.

No them creatures are safe! I guess it would taste like chicken?

...served up 400 herons to the guests at his inauguration

That's gross, there can't be much flesh on those herons - but 400!
The photos of the Kite are stunning; birds of prey are fascinating creatures! Glad you warned 'Bambi'
I hope you're having a good Easter/long weekend @grindle
PS that blushing female monkey heard you talking about her 😅

LOL cheers @lizelle. I only normally see magpies and the occasional robin living where I do, so it made a change. 400 is a bit OTT. It is raining so stuck indoors ! Hope you are having a good weekend, Plenty of easter eggs?

Happy Easter @grindle! I had family and friends paying surprise visits, starting on Thursday already, was awesome! I got one big Easter egg which I shamelessly flattened in one session last night when they all left, disgusted with myself🫣
