Why do people continue to cling to Web 2.0 platforms like X, despite the censorship, instead of embracing a Web 3.0 alternative like Hive, which is censorship-resistant and built on a blockchain? Web 2.0 platforms, such as X, are centralized systems where a single entity controls the servers, content moderation policies, and user data. This centralization allows decisions such as account suspensions, content removal, or algorithmic prioritization, often justified by terms of service or legal pressures. In contrast, Hive operates as a decentralized, blockchain-based platform launched in 2020 as a fork of the Steem blockchain, where content is stored across a network of nodes rather than on a single server. This structure makes it technically impossible for a central authority to censor or delete posts, as users control their accounts via cryptographic private keys, ensuring sole ownership and access without reliance on a governing body.
Hive’s design includes features like immutable text storage, human-readable account names, and a built-in reputation system, all without transaction fees (or "gas"), distinguishing it from many other blockchain platforms like Ethereum. Posts on Hive are stored on the blockchain, meaning they cannot be altered or removed once published, offering a permanent record resistant to interference. Additionally, Hive integrates a monetization model where users can earn cryptocurrency rewards, such as HIVE tokens, based on community upvotes—a system inherited from its Steem origins but refined to prioritize decentralization. This contrasts with X, where monetization is limited to specific programs (e.g., subscriptions or ad revenue sharing) controlled by the platform and subject to its rules, with no inherent ownership of data or earnings guaranteed to users.
Why would most people prefer the constraints that X has to offer over the freedom that exists on Hive? Why would anyone want X to own their account when they can own their own account on Hive? It makes a lot of sense for Marxists, National Socialists like the coward Stew Peters and Democrats to stay on platforms like this as they dont believe in private ownership anyway. But it makes little sense for Republicans, Libertarians, Anarcho-Capitalists, and Agorists to keep feeding platforms that are designed to enslave them!
