It's another beautiful Sunday and I am so excited as usual, do you know why?

Sunday's are for Hive Learners Creative Sunday Initiative and it's always fun learning different stuff from members of the community across the world.

For this Sunday entry, I shared a yummy snack recipe known as Yamarita and you are going to love it. The first time I tried this recipe was a very long time ago, the snack was my dinner for weeks and it was a lifesaver. Back then, the woman dips the yam in blended beans with seasoning and fried so instead of buying Yam and bean cake separately, her recipe gave me all at a cheaper price.

Fast forward to a few years ago when I tried another Yamarita recipe but this time, it wasn't bean. I ate the new recipe at a friend's place, she loves to explore with food and it was on her birthday so I had enough of the snack with juice.

It was delicious but I never tried it by myself until today. While staring at the small tuber of yam lying in my kitchen, trying Yamarita crossed my mind and I gathered the other recipes I could get easily.

I didn't know if I would get it right but I was eager because it looked very simple to prepare.

The Ingredients are:

  • Yam
  • Flour
  • Pepper
  • Eggs
  • Crayfish
  • Ginger
  • Groundnut oil
  • Onions
  • Seasoning
  • Salt

The ingredients aren't much and they are very cheap. These are things many have in their garden so it shouldn't be a problem picking them up.

Procedure

I started by processing the ingredients after ensuring that they were all clean.

  • I peeled the back of the yam and cut them as flat as I could.

  • I blended the pepper with a grater & chopped the Onions.

  • I blended the crayfish & garlic, they are best blended for the snack

  • I went on to boil the yam first because it wouldn't get enough time to fry since I do be wrapping them with mixture of egg & flour. Boiling will make the yam soft and ready for the final process.

While the yam was boiling, I prepared the rest of my recipe by mixing the flour, egg, seasoning cube, salt, crayfish, pepper, onions and ginger.

  • I turned all the flour first and all other ingredients mentioned above followed except the eggs. I mixed everything with a turning stick and added the eggs after, I mixed it again until everything blended in together.

  • By the time the yam was ready, I had finished mixing. I removed the yams from the pot and turned them into a container.

  • I turned the groundnut oil into the frying pan and turned on the cooker. Immediately the oil was hot, I started dipping the cooked yam into the mixture, ensured all part of the yam was covered with the mixture and put it in the hot oil.

  • Since the yam is cooked already, it doesn't need much frying. I flipped the sides and removed it from the oil when it was ready.

  • I repeated the process until I finished frying and they were all kept in the basket to drain whatever excess oil was in the Yamarita.

Even though it was my first time, I got it right and it's delicious.

The snack is nutritious because the majority of the recipes have nutrients that are very essential for the body.

Well done 👍

BTW is that scent leaf you added?

Yes, it's Basil leaf but it's not necessary. I just wanted the taste of it, you can add any veggies you want.

It's not today you'll embarrass me.

I put my yam on hot oil to fry with low heat, and then I pour the whisked the eggs with the normal ingredients. Voila, Jay's Yamarita is ready. My own no get red carpet ceremony 😂

Lolz, it works bro. It's almost the same thing and the taste is exactly like Yamarita.

This is one of the reasons why I love yam, my friend introduced this to me because she lives in the north and since then I have fallen in love with it, I will try it out one of this day.

The snack is really cool and you are going to love it. I enjoyed it and also have the mindset of recreating the snack in different ways.

This looks really delicious. I’m not really a fan of yam but I will definitely give this a try.

Uulalacious. Yummy. This is good and a beautiful way to eat yams. It can also be done even with the remains of cooked yam, rather than pouring them away next morning. Weldone @george-dee. You always impress me with your cooking. I wonder when you will drop location. Hahaha

Like me, I am not familiar with Yamarita oo but I love what I see in your video. Those are simple ingredients to get and make something nice. This is amazing 👏
