It's been four months since the pumpkin festival. We had Christmas since then and people are preparing to celebrate another event, which I don't want to name now for a good reason, but it's still not late to look back and remember the funny pumpkins. So let's get the party started, shall we?
This pumpkin festival was held in Sovata, which is a famous tourist destination of Transylvania, well known for it's salt lake and not only. This festival is organized annually and gives an opportunity to schools and kindergartens to show their creativity. it's a very good occasion for both the children of kindergarten and school age as well as locals and tourists from all over the world to admire these pumpkin creations and enjoy the good food and drinks the place has to offer. For me it was the first time last year in October, but definitely not the last one as I'm planning to go back and not only, but more about that a bit later.
To give you a bit of context, to be able to understand the magnitude of the event, there's the main road, which is around 1km long or even longer and takes you from the bus station to the lake and during the festival, the side of the road is full of pumpkins. Each class is exhibiting their wonderful pumpkins. I've seen a good few pumpkins in my life, but what you see here exceeds any expectations.
These pumpkins were designed by preschool kids. If you have a detailed look at each one, you can see how interesting and funny some of them are. I'm mostly used to traditional carving, like jack-o'-lantern pumpkins, but those can be boring, so I like these better. My favorite here are the white-black ones.
Not every pumpkin was special, but those little ghosts were quite charming and the one covered with a white cloth also was worth to pay attention to.
Having a great variety of pumpkins to admire makes you think of what you could create, maybe combine some ideas and bring something new to life. That little red one in the middle, with the red paint running down on it was quite cute. Would be lovely to have one with various colors.
Here's a cropped part of the previous photo. Look at the wounded pumpkin, all bandaged and the one behind it with the toothpaste and toothbrush. I love them, very original.
The funny thing is, you're always smarter at home, when you upload your photos and examine them on the big screen, but it may be too late to take action. Now I see that vehicle on the ground and it would have been nice to take a photo from a different angle, but there was no time and the truth is, I missed it, didn't see it. Looks interesting though.
This place made me stop and look at those lovely pumpkins. I'm always having a few of these small pumpkins in the kitchen, as decoration, during autumn, but I already had a few, so I didn't buy any.
I think this was the most beautiful one. The lovely redhead with the herbal dress, the chariot wheel and the other decorations made it a winner in my eyes.
Then there was a spiderman pumpkin.
A hedgehog too, made of toothpicks.
An entire ghost army and some lovely brown birds made of wild chestnuts, sitting on a branch. It's amazing how many great ideas you could see there.
That pumpkin building was cute.
I'll let you pick your pumpkin here. Lion, cat, mouse, a lady with a top hat, whatever you like. These were made by kindergarten kids.
This was another cool one and the more similar decoration I see, the more I'm convinced that carving is not the best way to decorate a pumpkin. Obviously the carved ones are the traditional ones, but I think these are nicer.
One of the windows was out, but never mind, look at the hedgehog made of a plastic bottle. How lovely.
This was maybe the cherry on top of the cake. Pumpkins at the spa.
In the previous photo you can see the driver of the chariot, with the pumpkins pulling the chariot. here you can see the pumpkin chariot itself.
While I was at the pumpkin festival and after seeing all these beauties, I decided to contribute next year in one way or another. I can't enter as a participant as it's for schools and kindergartens, but I'm planning to donate a huge pumpkin to a restaurant, to be place in front of it, at the entrance and I'm also planning to create a few beauties myself. I spoke to my dad, asked him to grow me some pumpkins. He's already bought the seeds and as soon as the gardening season starts, my pumpkin project starts too. Fingers crossed to get some nice, big ones.
I'm planning to invite some of you, who have the possibility of buying pumpkins and let's make a fun contest or challenge as well.
