Could There Ever Be A Balance Of Power Between The Men and Women

Matriarchy - What are your thoughts on matriarchy? What benefits do you find in matriarchy? Do you think we will ever return to having more matriarchies than patriarchies? What would we need to generate a transition from patriarchy to matriarchy?

Hello, amazing #qc-community, how are you doing? Trust fine. Welcome to my blog.

Matriarchy means women being in a higher percentage of leadership positions. This would mean women being market leaders, union leaders, leaders in the House of Representatives and the Senate, using my country of origin as an example. It also means women becoming speakers, governors, and even presidents. On the other hand, patriarchy means men dominating leadership roles in all cadres of the decision-making process.

The benefits of Matriarchy are not far-fetched; the initiatives, like the think tank, will work out well, women helping women. Less corruption, equity, fairness, diversity, control, inclusion, and finally empathy will be the order of the day. Starting from our different families, women are known to be strong, and the ability to manipulate them when they are in a position of authority is minute.

In my country, we have only four women in the House of Assembly seats, and compared to the seven women who are presidents in a world of over 195 countries, it shows that just about 3.5% of women hold powerful leadership roles worldwide.

Conversely, I can say that men in leadership are 96.5%. Proving that women are still in a struggle to secure leadership positions. Even when they eventually do, their rights are sometimes violated, and some of them face intimidation and threats, just like the recent scenario in the house of assembly of my country.

However, returning to the Matriarchy would mean a serious transformation and change in the socio-economic system. Starting from the family, school, religious activity, and society at large. The political stream will be the largest to be hit. Constant awareness, change of ideology, and complete acceptance by all stakeholders are required to make this happen. There will be a tumultuous resistance by the male folk. This is because most men believe that women reason one way.

One day, in such a discussion about gender equality and the need for women to be given a chance in leadership roles. A male gave funny feedback that if you allow a woman to be the president of a country, she might wake up angry one day and destroy the men.

In conclusion, I do not think a complete transition from patriarchy to matriarchy is possible now, but achieving a situation of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is feasible, where everybody, irrespective of color or race, is given a voice and is allowed to thrive in society.

I still can't understand why men feel so intimidated by a woman in power.

if you allow a woman to be the president of a country, she might wake up angry one day and destroy the men

And the worst part is that it's the men in power who make emotional decisions based on their egos.

Exactly 💯 💯 💯
I have them around me plenty because of my role

While some of them are nice and accommodating, others will always show signs of inferiority complex and as a result would always want to remain in power without allowing a simple opportunity to the other gender.

Wao! It's an interesting one.

These are just my personal thoughts. I am not trying to be biased in any way. I want to look at this matter from a religious and cultural point of view. As a Christian, I believe God gave men a natural role to lead. A man is created to handle pressure with more stability. This does not mean women cannot lead. It only means men have a kind of strength that helps them manage things without letting emotions control the moment.

From my own experience, I have worked under female leaders. I have seen good sides, and I have also seen times when emotions affected decisions. One day someone needed correction, and instead of dealing with it quietly, the whole thing became open. People walked in and added their own comments. It became a public issue, and it was embarrassing. Moments like that made me feel that some leadership roles may not fit every woman.

There are women who lead well, but most times they have trained their minds to be firm and disciplined. They think in a way many people in our culture see as masculine. Their feminine side is still there, but they handle things with a different mindset.

Culturally, I am a Yoruba man from Nigeria, and in our tradition the male child is seen as the head of the home and the system. Women play important roles, but the final authority rests on the man. That is how we were raised.

So if we now talk about having a matriarchal system in a society where everyone has different cultures and different beliefs, it will be very hard to achieve. I feel it may not even be possible because our foundations are not the same. Thank you for sharing

Well thank you @hillah for making this wonderful contribution. I have some observations to make.

  1. On the claim that men have some strength that enables them manage things without allowing their emotions getting in the way.
I have also seen many situations where some male folks are emotionally distraught such that their female counterparts took over and managed the situation.
2 . On the claim that some leadership roles aren't fit for females.
I think this is applicable to all gender, while some males perform better in some leadership roles, some women even do better in similar roles.

I think the only issue here is just the gender .

If we look beyond the gender ans look at the capabilites and competencies, then you'll see a thin line between these things.

Additionally, on tour culture, I presently live in Lagos and have stayed with different Yoeuba families and I must tell you that most times, it's not what the culture says that matters to most families I've realtes with but what is good for those families.

I have lived around a man that believed that his wife I a better decision maker and as a result , he can't conclude any discussion with you without telling you to give him time to discuss with his wife if she's not around.
This man is well read and versatile.
Sometimes, he will even tell you, to have that discussion with his wife and whatever he says is fine with him.

The male folk is blessed likewise the women folk, but if there are situations that allow the women folk to be given an opportunity why not.

This does not mean I usurp authority. Nope. I am currently stick with my husband and family and work with him as my husband in all ramifications.
