As expected, September is shaping up to be a pretty dull and or negative month for the markets so far. I'll be the first to admit that I haven't been doing this finance or crypto thing for as long as some people, but it still amazes me just how accurate the past indicators are.
Even when we think things are going to break away, the four year cycle still seems to hold fast. On the traditional side of things, I just keep tucking money away. The money that flows into my Roth IRA's and 403B's either come out before taxes or the transfers are "baked" into my budget, so I never miss that money. As long as I have a paycheck, there will be money flowing into the traditional side of things.
As for crypto, I had to scale back on a lot of my monthly buys a while ago when our dog Jovi got sick and we were spending a couple hundred dollars per month on meds for her. I haven't started those buys back up yet now that she is no longer with us, but I still have about $20 going into USDC every month and another $20 going into ATOM.
Meanwhile, on the HIVE side of things, I pulled 1000 HBD out of savings the other day and I am using that to buy batches of HIVE at key price points. It's kind of hard to pass up HIVE at $.16 am I right? I tried to keep enough HBD in savings so that I can still earn around 100 HBD per month in interest. That will stay rolled into savings to compound.
It is time again for another Finance Friday/Friday Finance. This is a series I started where I talk about random bits of financial stuff that I have seen, gathered, or experienced during the week. I hope as a reader you find it informational, entertaining, or both. I also hope it can generate some good discussion and edify the community.
How Much HOLOZING?
I've been delegating a big chunk of my HP for a while now towards the @holozing project so I can be ready when the game launches. I get about 3000 ZING per day with the majority of that being from my delegation. I'm trying to decide how much is enough though. I'd like to pull back that delegation eventually so I can restore the weight of my vote. I also have a few other projects that I want to direct some more delegations at.
My question is, how much is enough?
I know the short answer is enough is never enough, especially when it comes to crypto, but if you are invested in ZING, what's your target. Mine was 500K ZING. With what I have staked now, and what I have in the pool, I am nearly at that point. However, is it enough?
I've seen people talking about hitting the 1m ZING mark. I don't think that is very realistic for me, but should I push for 750K instead of just 500K? Please give me some insight if you have any!
Hamster Kombat
I saw the other day when I was in that goofy Telegram Hamster Kombat tapping game that they finally have a date set for the airdrop. September 26th is the official date for the AirDrop and listing. That's just 20 days away and you finally get to give your finger a break.
At this time they still haven't released the details on how much we can expect for our efforts. Personally, I think many of us are going to be quite underwhelmed. Also, past experience in crypto tells me this token is going to dump hard and fast. People thrive on instant gratification these days and the idea of hodling is quite foreign to them even though it is one of the cruxes of crypto.
I expect to to get very little if anything out of my efforts on Hamster Kombat. I hope I am wrong, but I doubt it.
Silver Side Up
On the silver side of things, I came across not one, but two articles this past week where someone found a stash of ancient silver coins hidden away. It's interesting that these articles popped up before @dbooster wrote his recent post about samurai treasure in Japan.
The hoard I am talking about was discovered hidden in a rock crevice in Israel and they think the coins date back to the 135 to 126 BC timeframe.
Although the coins were actually discovered back in 2017, they just recently went on display, so I think that is why this story has regained some traction.
The other discovery took place just across the Mediterranean sea in Sicily. On the tiny island of Pantelleria just a bit south west of the Sicilian mainland, archeologists were restoring a historic landmark when they discovered a bunch of silver coins in a wall dating back to 94 to 74 BC.
These 27 Roman Denarius were similar to another batch of coins they found on Pantelleria back in 2010.
Clearly, I'm in the wrong business and I live in the wrong part of the world. I can't even imagine how awesome it would be to find a collection like this. With just 27 coins, the melt value of the silver probably isn't that, much, but the historic value more than makes up for it.
If I do ever suddenly pop on here and tell you that I just discovered 35 ancient silver coins and I am donating them to some museum, it's probably best to assume that I really found closer to 40 and a HIVE auction will be pending for some super cool new silver! :)
That's all I've got for this week. I hope you have an awesome weekend! I plan on enjoying the cool weather before it heats up again next week. Plus @mrsbozz and I have a concert we are attending Saturday night. It should be a really good time!
