Lectures had concluded and students could be seen trooping out of the hall. I carried my bag and stood ready to join the out flow of other students. My stomach infrastructure was already complaining and any more delay would lead to catastrophe. I turned to ask Desmond my friend, if he cared to join me but I found him lost in thought.
"Earth to Desmond, where did you travel to?" I asked him mockingly.
"Oh, it's nothing". He said as he stood up and followed me to the cafeteria. I immediately ordered my food and Desmond followed suit. We chose a seat, sat down and I began to wolf down my food. I noticed that he was absent minded again, so I paused and inquired..
"Hey, what's up with you? You've been off since morning, care to share what the problem is?"
"Em..Er...well you see it's just... nothing much really, Becky. Don't mind me, I'll be fine" He replied. Well that was not good enough and so I asked the obvious..
"Is this about Jessica?" I searched his face for answers and I see his face brighten up, a shy smile on his lips but he did his best to hide it but I caught on anyway.
Realizing that he was found out, he quickly said "Okay, you've caught me. It's about her, I mean us. I don't know what to tell to impress her and date night is in three days. I don't want to mess things up" he crooned.
😂😂😂😂, I couldn't help laughing at him. Talk about Mr romantic going on break. "Hey buddy, you should have talked to me sooner and this would have been resolved without breaking a sweat".
"You!, What do you know about setting up dates. All you ever do is read a book or have a mocha, nothing fun so how could I come to you"
"This is why you're in a fix. You don't know how to study people beyond face value. At least I know that Jessica loves coffee. No she adores coffee unlike you and she usually takes her coffee with a pineapple cake" I replied smugly earning a bewildered look from him.
"Wow, you're cool to have known this. So can you help me bestie" he replied with puppy dog eyes.
"Yes I'll help you buddy. There's a coffee shop about thirty minutes away from campus, it's called vintage cafe. You can set the date there. I heard the place has lovely decors that give off a romantic ambience. Plus they make great coffee. I once overheard Jessica say that she prefers a macchiato to a latte and don't forget the cake".
You also need to get over your lukewarm attitude to coffee, it might not be good for your date. I mean, why don't you enjoy taking coffee anyway?
"It's not like I detest coffee, no, it's just that It leaves a bitter after taste in my mouth, once I'm done taking it" he replied.
"Well that's cos you go for low quality coffee or over extracted coffee. Good coffee has an exotic taste to it. You'll understand when you visit the vintage cafe. Also don't forget to get her flowers as well. Maybe after the date, you could take her to a karaoke club for more fun" I said winking at him.
"Thank you Becky, this is great. You've just saved my first date night. I need to go make some arrangements...see you later, bye" he said leaving the cafeteria in a hurry.
I waved at him as I said "good luck buddy" Go have some fun. I smiled knowing that he wouldn't mess things up.
