Genus Platyrhacus | 03 12 2024 | North Acèh Regency, Acèh, Indonesia |
As I walked along a forest path overgrown with wild foliage, my eyes caught sight of something moving slowly across the moss-covered ground. As I approached, I noticed a small, flat, long-bodied creature moving among the dry leaves. Upon closer inspection using a macro lens, I recognized the creature as a member of the genus Platyrhacus, a group of flat centipedes often found in humid environments such as forests.
The distinguishing feature of Platyrhacus that caught my attention was its flat body with segments that resembled a layered armor. Its body color varied between dark brown and reddish, creating a pattern that seemed to blend in with the surrounding soil and foliage. In addition, its small, constantly moving antennae looked like radars, scanning its surroundings.
I tried to take several photos from various angles, trying to capture the details of its body and movements. The challenge was that this creature was quite active, so I had to be patient waiting for the right moment. Using additional lighting, I managed to capture several images that showed the unique texture of its body and its behavior as it searched for food among the remains of leaves.
